I am a Christian, but I would like to know why so many people who consider themselves "Christians" get so offended or worked up by people who try to prove you wrong? If you really know what you believe, then why get so deffensive?

All they want to do is get a reaction out of you... They spend so much time trying to prove that God doesn't exist... but if he didn't exist why would they try to spend so much time proving that he doesn't? Kind of a waste of time eh?

people get worked up because they take it personal. They are offended and feel like they are being attacked. However, you are right. People are just looking for a reaction.

You should also look at it from the point of view of other religions when it comes to being a 'good Christian'. I am Jewish and I am constantly bombarded with you are a Christ Killer, anti-Christian, a heathen, need to be washed in the blood of Christ, need to be Baptized, need to see the light, must give my soul to Jesus, must be born again, I am the anti-Christ, I am betraying the one true God, I need to convert to the one true faith, I will be damned to eternal hell and I am no damned good.

I get so offended and worked up by this hate speak by the truly 'good Christians', that I often wonder whether or not there is such a thing as a 'good Christian'. My religion does not go out and try to convert anyone. If you want to become Jewish, it is a long and difficult thing to do.

I believe in the Golden Rule. I also believe that everyone has the right to believe what they want to believe. On top of that, I wish that all the people of any faith or no faith would let me live my life my way.

I'm Pagan, so as far as this fight goes, I'm unaffiliated.

I've met some VERY rude atheists who were every bit as fundamentalist as the most intense Christians I've ever met.

On the other hand, Christians usually get frustrated when they try to defend the indefensible. The simple truth is that there are contradictions and mistranslations in biblical text that need to be accounted for when using it to define one's world view. Not doing that, let alone not knowing where these alterations and conflicts are, is simply not going to fly if you're going to advocate your position in a public forum. If reason or logic opposes your belief, maybe it's time to ask yourself why you believe something illogical. (For the record, I believe in the Goddess, so I don't believe that believing in a deity per se is illogical.)

Christians that get worked up like that, may believe they have faith in God, but certainly do not have the faith OF God. They trust the doctrines of their religion but are not trusting the truth of God. Their faith is weak and are doubting the truth of Him.

True faith is never blind. It's not a half hearted belief, optimistic , glass 1/2 full, attempt at best. When you KNOW God your cup runneth over, your trust in Him is perfect. Nothing can possibly shake your faith, you know God. The absolute end of all doubt.

That being said, I'll say people of weak faith are no better than people who believe they're atheist. Neither of them trust the truth of God, God loves them but they are just creating more and more doubt of God for each other. A vicious circle of endless distrust of the Lord, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit of God among them.

I'm not quite sure how to fix the problem, but trust me I'm trying.

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

If ALL christians thought this way, I might find a bit more respect for the devout.

If we ALL could behave like this...ALL religions could co exist.

Trying to prove or disprove anything is pointless.

We all have our own beliefs. If they were each respected in turn what a fascinating world it it would be.

it is human nature among people of all paths to want to be right.

no one here can prove or disprove the existence of any god, but those who tout their book as literal truth are setting themselves up for failure. Either their god not only removed supporting evidence of biblical literalism and planted contrary clues, or the bible is not literal truth.

I have never gotten worked up over someone trying to prove me wrong. They can't, any more than I can prove I am right. I find the insults in poor taste. I find it troubling when people are berated for their beliefs. ALL beliefs not just Christian.

Atheists don't try to prove God doesn't exist. They knows that's impossible. You can't prove a negative. But the Bible is open to criticism, mostly because the whole book is fiction with a little bit of fact mixed in, kind of like Greek mythology. =P

I agree with you. We, as christians, know the way of faith isnt easy and the road is narrow. I pray for them and just try to be as polite as possibly can. I find that when I do people, generally, act inkind.

You say... by people who try to prove you wrong. How can you prove something does not exist?
I think you have your semantics mixed up.
