Yes. Be sure and have a copy of your child's birth certificate and your child support agreement/order when you enlist. You'll want to get your child enrolled in DEERS so he/she can have dependent medical benefits.

That is not true. My husband (I didnt know him when he first enlisted) has a daughter and he pays child support, he and his ex have joint custody, 50-50 (its in their divorce papers) the mom is considered the custodial parent because one of them had to. He joined the Air Force. So yes it is possible.

Edit** I love getting thumbs down for telling the truth... it is possible to join the Air Force while paying child support. (the Air Force gives us extra money to pay for the child support each month)

ok, well to add on to this guys question, i also have 1 kid and am not married, and my recruiter just told me that if i'm paying child support i'm not ellibible to enlist. i went onto the air force website and asked theire online advisor and he told me the same thing. at least in the state of new jersey you are required to sign custody over to the non-enlisting parent, and if you sign custody over just to enlist than you also aren't eligible. can anyone provide some more detailed answers than on how to go about doing this? thanks!

As long as you are of a certain age and can pass the enlistment tests, then you're in.

NO. you are considered a Single parent unless you have court documents stating you have NO custody whatsoever(legal or physical). If you have joint custody, you may not enlist.
