I am in no way trying to offend athiests, but isn't it hard in not believing in anything? Having nothing to look forward to after death seems odd to me.

It seems odd to you because your mind is very narrow....

First of all, atheists do have beliefs. They just don't revolve around supernatural deities or some afterlife paradise.

Instead of looking forward to an afterlife, I focus on enjoying the life I have now. I don't worry about death and do not fear death.

I often ask questions like "If a loved one dies and doesn't go to Heaven, wouldn't you be sad that they weren't there when you got to Heaven?". Most Christians that answer me usually say that our memories are erased when we go to Heaven. Well, if that is the case, how is that any better than just dying and becoming worm food? If you have no memory either way, you won't know the difference.

I'm an athiest and i believe in everything that has been proven to be real.
And, it isn't hard at all. I love being able to live my life the way I want to.
I honestly do not believe there is anything after death.
That is the point of death, life is over.

You're right that I'm not looking forward to anything after death, but there's a lot that I'm looking forward to in life. The fact that I'm only going to be here for a certain amount of time makes my life that much more precious.

Not believing in an afterlife makes life on earth that much more precious. We don't get a second chance, so we have to do it right the first time around. We don't have a pie in the sky waiting for us, therefore me we must live our lives to the fullest during the short time we have. Does that make life harder? Maybe. But it makes it so much more worthwhile.

And don't confuse not believing in God with not believing in anything. There is a big difference.

The perfect question for my 1000th answer on R&S.

I believe in many things that make life worth living. I believe in my wife and my family. I believe they believe in me.

I believe in the wonders of nature and the cosmos and the natural world, and enjoy learning as much as I can about it. I believe in a good joke, a good glass of wine and a good evening with my wife.

Not "looking forward to after death" is as empty to me as trying to remember before I was born. One day my candle will die out and I will no longer have memory of what has occurred, but until that time I will enjoy my life and my loved ones.

Thanks for a great question for my to hit my 1K mark!

Nope, I mean religiously I don't believe in anything, but I mean there other things to "believe" in, such as being a good person for the sake of being a good person, believing in family and friends, etc all that jazz.

And as for the afterlife, one life is good enough for me. The whole heaven/hell thing seems a little childish and either choice would end up being boring, doing the same thing for eternity.

I believe in the things that are right here right now while I'm alive. Family, friends, love, joy, fun, success, hard work...

I don't see the point in wanting something to look forward to after you die. Death means "the end" so I see it as... you know... the end.

Why would you look forward to something after death? Sounds pretty retarded to me, actually. No. It's quite fun not believing in anything. Makes it lot easier having fun without wondering what Jesus would do.

And I just LOVE answering questions to my peers about Atheism. Like "do you worship the Devil?"

To be honest, I think it would be a lot easier if I knew an all loving God existed and the family that I have lost and will lost will be reunited with me. It would be nice to know that I do not cease to exist, it would be nice to know there was a purpose to life, etc.

Then again, I'm not an atheist because it is easy.

I believe in a lot of things.
Yes it is hard to think.. very hard for some. For me it is as natural as breathing though, but I still struggle with some very difficult concepts--and have to mull over them for a few days. It's definitely a struggle to learn rather than to accept. To doubt, rather than to fear... but I accept it wholeheartedly as the path I'm meant to take.
