You mean put out to pasture. When a horse gets to old to be a working animal, the owner just lets it graze in the pasture and relax for the rest of it's life. It is also a slang term meaning that when a person gets to old to do much, they should be allowed to retire and live out the rest of their life in peace.
Or some would say, when someone becomes useless, put them somewhere out of the way, but I hate that line of thought.

Retired. When a work horse got too old or injured to work, they were put in the pasture and left there to eat and be happy. No more work, just a peaceful life for them :)

Pasture. Metaphorically speaking, it's the same as being over the hill, meaning, someone wants to shoo you off the fast lane of life (usually because you are not keeping up) over to a place where you won't get in the way......

Its pasture. When an old horse is about to die and can't work the fields anymore they would put it out to pasture...essentially horsey retirement, where it would live off its days in uselessness until it died.

put out to pasture. This is a farming term for a workhorse or other beast of burden. Once their usefulness as a beast is done, often they were put out to pasture to sire other animals instead of overworking an older animal.

Pasture.
Like when a horse isn't good for much anymore, you just let him spend his time chewing weeds or whatever in the pasture.

You mean pasture? It's like someone who is ready to retire so they force him to leave the company with few benefits.
