SpayAndNeuterPlease : i would LOVE to adopt a shelter dog, but as im only 15 and living with my parents and 5 other dogs (yes 5 mad i know) its not an option at this age. this question is mainly for my future, but i thought id ask this now so i had years to research into possible breeds for my future when i move out. currently im quite keen on bulldogs :), despite all their health worrys.

one bad thing with shelters, id feel so bad that i could only take one dog home with me.:(

Wolf Hybrids. xD
I have owned over 11 wolf hybrids in my short life. They are great dogs. What some may say about them being evil, crazy, untrainable, and so on, is just untrue. Its just an excuse that was made up by bad dog owners who have bought one, and had know idea about training and what not, and just blamed it all on the dog. If they had bought something like a Labrador or Golden Retriever, they would have most likely have had the same result in how bad their dog turned out.
Wolf Hybrids are wonderful, friendly, loyal and loving dogs, that people are scared of just because of made up myths and rumors.
I would trust my wolf hybrids with children of any age, they won't hurt anyone.

My Wolf Hybrids are half German Shepherd, and the puppy in my avatar is one of them.

Shih Tzus for sure. It would also be nice if it was a shelter dog, Oh i wish i had gotten one, but i didnt.I have a shih tzu and she is a nice smallish size shes about 2 feet if u make her stand up and shes not that wide at all. They are also cheap if you know how to find the cheap ones. They are usually 360 - 700 bucks if they're puppies, but obviously they vary. I got mine for 600 when she was about 3 months old. And if you get a pure bred shih tzu you'll have him or her for probably long time, they can live up to 20 years. Mine so far is 3 1/2 years.Shih Tzus are protective too but they are loving to family and strangers. They might be a little aggressive at a first meet with a stranger but on walks and thing like that they always listen unless they smell another dog. That is probably usual for all dogs though. Shih Tzus can also be very fun at times, usually my shih tzu is always trying to have fun after going outside and being washed up. But also sometimes she can be very lazy and sleepy, that happens when she dosent get enough sleep obviously.

A shelter dog will love you for LIFE because you will have saved his life from an early death.

Shelter dogs are friendly, just look at how happy they are to see you when you walk by their kennel.

Shelter dogs are loving, just wait until you take one home and you see how affectionate and snuggly he is!

Shelter dogs are fun, they are SOOOO glad to be out of that cold dark kennel that they bounce around all around you in joy, trot by your side on long walks, follow your lead wherever you go, and get the zoomies when you least expect it!

Golly, how could you not adopt a shelter dog now?

i love mutts! i have a soft spot for them..BUT, as for breeds that i have been around that i find are friendly I'd have to say the Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie).
i grew up w/one. he lived for 13 yrs. i was 3 yrs old when we got him and he was my buddy till i was 15.
the day we had to put him down (due to kidney failure) was the worst day ever! i have never gotten over it...Cody was my best friend. he was protective of us kids, but was a sweet sweet dog.
Shelties are just great dogs anyways...friendly, alert, smart and sweet as honey!

All dog breeds are friendly, loving, and fun. The way to choose a dog is by basing it on a dog's personality compared to yours. for example, some people like to take a jog around their neighborhood, so they have a dog that enjoys the outdoors, as much as they do.

i have a havanese. they are a rare breed of dog originated from Cuba. they grow to be around 12 pounds but appear bigger. they come in all different colors. their coat is long and very smooth. their temperament is what i like best. they are not your average lapdog. they are as athletic and energetic as a lab in a smaller more controllable package. my dog in my opinion is the best behaved dog. the havanese is a great dog for families or companionship.

Golden retrievers!! Trust me, I have 3 and they are sweeties. By the way, they are beautiful- and RESCUED. Rescue your dogs from a shelter because they need homes and they love you that much more for saving them. Have fun, and remember- GOLDENS ROCK!
PS: in my life, we have had 5 goldens and they all rescued. The first two died but we have Cody, Daisy, Tucker now. CUTE!! hehe btw, im 13

Boston Terriers!!! Well I have 2 BTs and they are the sweetest dogs ever. They love to sleep next to me, so if i'm watching tv they cuddle up beside me, they give me kisses and they love belly rubs, they are also protective, easy to manage and they dont shed much, they are also good around kids. Good luck with your search.

This can be true for most dogs, provided they are socialized and trained properly.
Dogs that tend to be more upbeat are your golden and labrador retrievers for a larger dog, Boston terrier and pug for a smaller dog.
