Actually they have done quite well, there is a low overall death count for Americans and they are fighting under very restricted rules of engagement, plus the enemy is hiding among the non-fighters. Much of what they are doing is more police work than war fighting and that has never been the job of an army, so that works against them too.

The troops performed valiantly marching through southern Iraq and taking Baghdad in three short weeks. US land forces were never trained nor equipped for urban warfare. In that environment, the home team has a huge advantage. That doesn't factor in the complications of a civil war.

That's why our military pick on small and weak military nations, so It will look like we can win in war. You know, a real war would be like picking a fight with Russia, China or a european nation, that will be a real war, with equal forces, then we can be all proud of our military. Not like the invasion of iraq, which was done most on air power, without air power our soldiers are nothing. Just look how cowardly the marines fight in Iraq, as soon they see the insurgents are kicking butt, they cry for "air support!" that's the only way the US soldiers win those battles, full of shame, my cousin ( a marine) was there and he was a shame of it, he regret he became a marine.

The problem is not the soldiers its the politicians in Washington .They are using the war for their own political gain and they worry more about how we treat the detainees than how our soldiers are doing.. This isn't a Democrat or Republican thing they are both guilty of letting the military people down. They worry more about water boarding than than they do about our people.

war is not like a john wayne movie anymore. there are no battle lines or hills to be taken. it is something we are not used to dealing with and maybe we need a different plan. hopefully for all our sakes, especially yours the current drop in deaths continue. good luck and hope we don`t go into iran also.

The rules of engagement are different, the military is fighting this war with one hand tied behind their backs, a real war would be different

The enemy hides among the innocent. No uniforms . They hide behind women and children. They are the lowest cowardly scum of the earth.
