France (Britain's arch rival at this time) poured money, soldiers, and even fleets to help the American cause.
Meanwhile, the war was very costly (and unpopular) for the British.
Lastly, as long as the Americans had an army in the field, they could still fight. Add this to the popular support the Americans enjoyed (read: immense spy network and local knowledge) and Washington could fight a withering retreat forever.
It should be noted that while American troops could survive with less support than the Redcoats (and where thus faster on the march), they very rarely employed "guerrilla" tactics. Washington preferred the formation tactics of the time.

They didn't. Sure it's a pride thing, but the truth is, the soldiers only one battle and that's because the British were sleeping.

The truth is that King Louis XVI of France bankrupted his country which helped create the French Revolution (1789) and he finally lost his head using French Naval power to put strains on the British. The British felt that things were getting too expensive for them, but they just got done taking over Canada (1763) so it wasn't that big a loss to lose the small colonies for the richess of Canada.

Fortitude. We were Britain's Vietnam. They won most (almost all) of the battles and had superior firepower (on land, not at sea). Our guys had fortitude. They didn't give up no matter how many times they got their butts kicked. Eventually the public in Britain got sick of their sons dying in a senseless war, and they gave up. Of course we have to thank the French who made it all possible, by lending us their support and their money. We couldn't have done it without them. It's one of the reasons why French people think Americans are rude when they say things like "We saved your *** in WWII, you owe us". Have you ever heard a Frenchman say "we saved your *** in your revolution, you owe us"?

France helped.
Brittain is a long way away.
Brittain was distracted with other issues so they couldn't commit all of their resources.
Brittish soldiers marched around in formation in colored uniforms while American rebels hid in the woods and picked them off.
