I had my first dental appointment in 7 or 8 years yesterday (yikes, I know). They didn't find much of anything except that my wisdom teeth need to come out; I've known since I was 13 that they would need to eventually. I made an appointment to have them removed on a Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. I'm 21, a registered nurse, and I live alone. What I'm wondering is how long I need to have someone hanging around with me after getting me home from the office - if it's any substantial amount of time, I may need to reschedule my appointment for a time that's more convenient for another person to stay with me. I know I'll need a ride home and then I'll be groggy, but is it absolutely necessary that I not be alone after that?

You will be just fine on your own when you get home.
Have the person help you into your home and to your bed. Take your medicine and sleep away.
When you wake up just get out of bed slowly because you may still be light headed/dizzy from the medication.
Good Luck!!!

Well, you'll need to have someone there just to keep an eye on you every once in a while for a night.

I was knocked out with sodium penothal when I had all three of my widom teeth removed. My ex-bf drove me home but didn't help me. I felt like I had drank a whole bottle of tequila (no, I didn't feel any pain until later). I stumbled to the door and slammed against the walls until I found the room I wanted and crashed for a couple of hours. After I woke up, I was fine from then on.

I had mine taken out a few months ago. The whole procedure took about half and hour for me and I only needed to have someone with me until the anesthetics wore off. After that, I was completely fine by myself.

I was also fortunate enough to not have any pain at all. Didn't have to take any pain medications, but I was scared to eat normally for several days.

No, you should be fine by yourself. I just slept a lot, took my medication by myself, etc. After the first day you're perfectly fine. It's just right after you wake up that you're out of it and need help.

FYI,
A FEW HOURS UNTIL YOU ARE NO LONGER GROGGY FROM THE ANESTHETIC WILL SUFFICE.
