How big or small of a piece?
For the most part, your child should be fine.
Heck, my boy swallowed a penny when he was a toddler and the Dr pretty much said it will pass and just look for it to make sure. It did with no problems.
Edit... reading some of the responses.
The aluminum and alzheimer connection has been disproven. The initial study that linked aluminum to alzheimer was faulty due to the staining dyes being contaminated with aluminum. In other words, the reason there was aluminum in the samples was due to the researchers adding it to the samples, unintentionally.

I'd be more worried about the foil than the small egg. A limited amount of chocolate won't kill your dog, but it is still bad. If you're REALLY scared you can poor 3% hydrogen peroxide (DO NOT use any thing stronger as it WILL hurt your dog) down your dogs throat to induce vomiting (I'd suggest putting her in a bath tub or outside first). I'd also suggest calling your vet first, or an emergency clinic and asking a professional.

Your child will be ok. My dog actually ate some foil once and it eventually came out when he went to the bathroom.

Your child should be fine. He/she will poop it out. If you are that worried you can call the doctor. But if your child seems to be doing fine they are. My son is 18 months and he eats anything he can find. Most the time I don't even know he ate it until I change his diaper and notice it. lol it will be ok.

It will come out the other end. If you are really worried call your dr office and ask for some advice. You might want to try some prune juice to keep things moving well.

Was it tin foil or aluminum foil? Tin foil is harmless, but aluminum foil can cause Alzheimer's disease, but it won't be noticable in your child, however, until she is well advanced in years.

i wouldn't worry. but i would watch him or her for couple days and if there is any notice of real pain or discomfort then i would see a doctor
foil is mostly magnesium which is something the body can use but its not really digestible in that form

it's amazing what the human body can digest harmlessly. I wouldn't be worrying about it... depending on what 'smallish' means.
but if a child can eat it, it must be pretty tiny. i wouldn't worry.

Get your kid to the Emergency Room. That peice of foil could cause internal bleeding and cut his/her intestines.
