Antidepressants vary from individual to individual. I do know most antidepressants have to be tappered onto and it could take up to several months before you notice obvious results. Some people have to try different ones out to find out how wel they work with that individual. Your Dr. will advise what he think is best but it is always good to do some online in dept research for yourself. What works for one person may not work as well for another. But don't give up. Take your meds as perscribed and give it a while to see how it's helping. If you have any concerns or problems make sure you tell your Dr. about it.

I suffered from panic attacks and 'flip-outs' after the birth of my second child and also after my third. Sertraline anti-depressant (lots of different types of sertraline, I took Lustral)was a gentle medication and kept me beautifully in control. Am presently off them only two weeks ago and feeling completely normal...so I am 100% glad I took them so that everyone in my family, including me, has had a happy existence during a time that really could have been horrid!!!
Best of luck!! And remember, mental health is as important as physical health :)

Not everyone will have the same results with anti-depressants.
It took me a while to find a good combination. I now take Celexa 40MG, Wellbutrin 300MG and Seroquel 200MG.
Aside from the medication, I have frequent counseling which is a huge help.

There are many new ones outh there these days. Twenty years ago, not so much. You should really see a psychiatrist what is trained in this area and is licensed to prescribe these medications. He/she can evaluate your specific needs and prescribe a treatment program that will best work for your particular type of ailment.

I have taken every antidep on the market and have had success with many--but sometimes they stop working, and you have to try something new. Which one you try depends on your particular symptoms. Here is a great resource: www.nami.org. National Alliance for Mental Health. They have all the med info you could ever want.
Feel better!

I've been on both Welbutrin and Lexapro. I had great success with Lexapro. Welbutrin was a little better though because Lexapro seemed to make me antsy and stuff, where Welbutrin didn't. Hope that helps.
