I keep trying to ask good questions that will earn stars I tell you it's not fair that a question like:
Do you know what's going on around you? earns 9 stars
am I the only one that thinks thats not fair?
Now dont get me wrong I thought that was a decent question and I answered it .

Stars are usually the result of having more contacts, and those contacts wanting to circulate the question around. Usually, nothing more.

To be honest I have never noticed the star ratings - guess I've never had one (but then I've only ever asked 3 questions and 1 wasn't even noticed!). If I see a good question I give it a star, same with answers - I give the thumbs up. But I have noticed there are some groups who have lots of "friends" so I think it must be something they do for each other.
Points are not an issue to me. I just like to answer questions that are interesting.

Everyone's talking about it being a sign of popularity and maybe that is true for some, but that's certainly not why *I* would star a question. I star a question because I think it's very interesting and either do not know the answer and would like to, or know it but can't articulate it and would like to see what others say about it. That's it. I star it so that I can later come back and see how people answered it. It's more of a filing system --- otherwise how would I ever remember to come back and see how people answered?

I don't think you'll see questions like "Do you believe in God?" getting any stars. That gets posted 27 times a day and no one really cares to come back and check on the answer to that one --- it'll get posted again in 5 minutes anyway. I think you'll notice a definite correlation between more interesting/thought provoking/unique questions and more stars.

if you were a celebrity for example like Leonardo DiCaprio, you can get more than 170 stars, and more than 10000 answers.
