Usually there is a:

- Subwoofer
- A receiver (I think this is what you are talking about)
- 5 speakers
- Somtimes a DVD player.

Make sure the HTIB you get is NOT a skinny box with a receiver & dvd player built in. While these would work in a motorhome, you really want a set that looks like the parts were assembled from stand alone components.

You want to be able to swap out the dvd player.
You want to be able to swap the subwoofer
You want lots of empty connections on the back of the receiver for CATV, Sat receiver, Xbox, PS3, BluRay/HD DVD players, etc.

Some of the more 'integrated' units only have 1 or 2 spare inputs and then people come here and whine about it.

Hi . The component that selects the input source, controls the volume etc. is called the Pre-Amplifier or Pre-Amp. Controller, which is the first stage of amplification in a Stereo Amplifier.

Is this what you are asking ?

Perhaps you're thinking of an Home

Theater in a Box, or "HTIB" for short.

Or you could be thinking of an Audio

Video Receiver, or Integrated Amp...

Depends but usually it's the receiver that controls everything.
