how would you feel if the person your dating says: it all depends because if it's going to hurt you but doesn't really matter than why tell you, when i could just not and not hurt you ?

Yes, I think it's always important. I'd rather know the truth and be able to deal with it or fix it than wonder why my relationship faded away for no apparent reason.
I would not tell little white lies to any of my friends; I respect them more than that. If my friend asks me if she looks fat in a pair of pants and I think she does, I'll tell her. (I would word it nicely, like "they're not flattering".) She trusts me to tell her the truth, so I'm not going to betray that trust.
The biggest problem comes when people (generally women, but men do it too) ask a loaded question. "Do you think I'm pretty/fat?" or "do you think he/she is better looking than me?" are the absolute worst questions. A partner might be inclined to lie because there is no right answer; you either hesitate a second too long or you don't sound convincing because your answer isn't true.

I personally think that honesty usually can not hurt other. Its foolish to start new relationship on the basis of dishonesty and similarly the old relationship may perish if u r dishonest .sometimes to hurt and say the truth is a very small price one has to pay as compare to the aftermath hurt.

I think so, truth always prevails no matter what...yes truth is bitter and it hurts a lot...but it may hurt anyone, it may hurt everyone actually...but what is better than reality, if someone can not accept the truth then it is like living in lies..and denying the fact is a blind situation. So hang on with the truth and honesty always , because it will set you free,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It depends on the subject...like if a friend asks if those jeans make her butt look big...of course you say no, even when you know they do, but aside from things like that...little white lies, yes honesty is the best...and only policy. You need to love someone enough to be honest with them. If you have no trust, you have nothing.

i dont completely beleive it. sure, honesty is good at times but at some times its just inappropriate example: when you are 4, your parents arent being'honest' when they dont tell you how you were born and about sex. its just inappropriate to do so. similarly sometimes you have to hide things from people really close like someone you are dating. my view is honesty IS the best policy but only after trust. if you dont trust that person, the result will not be pleasing, thats the bad part about honesty. if you are honest it will hurt them and if you arent honest it will hurt them more. just think what you think is right to do at the situation

me and my man have this thing about honesty. no matter how horribleit is, at least you're honest.
it's better to hear the ugly horrible truth, rather than a beautiful lie, because knowing in your heart that you told the truth, gives you a release if the relationship doesn't work..

That sounds as if you believe it is better to hide things. That shows you don't plan on committing to one person, you should probably stay out of relationships....

It isn't always the best policy. More importantly than if it is going to hurt them, is what would happen if you don't tell them.
