Yes, it is possible. When you have completed your Junior year, I believe you will be asked whether you would like to be commissioned when you Graduate. You can go on Active Duty or stay in the Reserves. You would be a Second Lieutenant in either case.

My ex-brother-in-law went active when he graduated and retired after 25 years as a Full Colonel.

When you are commissioned through ROTC you are prepared as a reserve officer. Dependent on the needs of the Army at the time a certain percentage of those in the ROTC graduating class are placed on active duty the rest are placed on reserve duty. Usually there are several who do not want an active duty commission so it is not as big of an issue as you might think. It also will depend on your college major. As the Army heavily recruits nurses from the civilian sector they are very active at recruiting ROTC nursing majors into the active duty. If your major is agriculture and you are going to end up in the infantry that is a different matter. Once on active duty after finishing your inital tour of duty you are offered the opportunity to apply for conditional voluntary indefinite (CVI) status this allows you to stay on active duty as a reserve officer until you have had your second board promotion (usually to Major) then you are commisioned as a Regular Army officer.

If I am not mistaken the reason it is called the Reserve Officer Training Corps is because you are enrolled in college at the time and not actually in the service yet until the completion of the second year. Once completed I believe you have the choice of going into active duty or reserve duty.

As an officer you're able to serve a minimum of six years lively accountability, no longer 4, in the previous you could request to renounce your value. you could no longer get a value by using a 4-year ROTC contract and then serve 8 years in Reserves in return without lively accountability. does not ensue. permit you already know what, when you consider which you desire to have the government pay to your degree and then do no longer something in return, in simple terms renounce your American citizenship and grow to be an unlawful alien. which will assure you all kinds of advantages and classes. Do us a want and don't connect the militia at the same time as whining and dragging your ft by using your lively accountability time. the militia does not desire that.

That's how most Officers become Officers. There are 3 ways,
West Point, ROTC, and OCS. Good luck.
