Let's say there is a girl I like: Becky. She probably likes me back, according to 3 of my friends who understand dating and stuff.

I have a close friend, ashley. We are JUST close friends, she is 2 years older than me and very mature and I respect her very much. She's helped me through this Becky problem when I felt like ****...
Becky hasn't dated anyone for 2 months, the longest time she's been single since she started dating 2 yrs. ago. (we're sophomores).

Anyways, Becky was talking about how girls nowadays feel they NEED a boyfriend to feel good about themselves, and how she doesn't like that, and how shes practically the only girl she knows whos not like that. I said "no, wait, ashley's not like that either". I;ve mentioned ashley a few times, about how I greatly respect her, but only twice in the last month hav i talked about ashley. for 5 seconds each time.

After I said "ashleys like that too" she goes "why dont u just marry her?" in a sarcastic, brisque annoyed tone.

HAHA yeah, I like ashley very much, but more like as a sister.

She lives in ND, I live in NC, I used to live in ND but I moved. Anyhow, i still talk to her frequently and I just respect her opinion a lot, she's a very mature person. But more of a sister you know? Like an older sister, always looking out for me and fixing me when I'm messed up.

haha she calls becky "creepy becky." But she also thinks I should try it out. Becky that is, and unlike becky she says this in a completely normal tone.

Becky told me to "go out w/___" also, not ashley but a diff. girl. But it was akwardly abrupt haha. Not the kind of thing a friend would say.

Yeah shes probably uncomfortable that your so close to this chick. Also she probably felt challenged that she was boasting making her self sound like she was the only one just to have you, the guy she might be interested in, knock her off her high horse by correcting her and talking about some other chick.

It is a bit of jealousy...the question is, is she jealous because she likes you or is she jealous because someone else is becoming your friend and she may have to take a back seat to that person. If she is truly your friend and you are close, you should be able to discuss this with her. Ask her why that bothered her so much. It's possible she has feelings for you she didn't even realize, or it could be she was just tired of hearing about Ashley. Maybe you've mentioned her name more than you noticed. It's time for a talk. The earlier you learn good communication skills with females, the better your chances for long lasting relationships in the future.

If she's continually not single (the longest time is two months?), she definitely needs a boyfriend to make her feel good about herself.

Sounds like Becky likes you, or is at least trying to get you tell her she's so great. You insulted her by mentioning another girl - friend or not, it's a bad thing to do because the girl feels threatened.

If you like her, stop mentioning Ashley. But Becky sounds somewhat stuck up, so be careful.

It seems as though Becky feels special by "being the only girl like that" and you bring up Ashley, saying she is the same way, which takes away her uniqueness. Not neccessarily jealousy, but you took away her spotlight. No woman wants to hear about another woman, it takes the spot light off them. Not a case of jealousy, a case of weak game lol don't mention any other girls around her.

You sure you don't like Ashley?

I have acted like Becky...the fact that she suggested you marry her - means she is envious of the fact that you mention her alot...which leads me to believing Becky is crushing on you.

Reassure Becky that Ashley is just a friend...no romantic interest. But you really need to stop mentioning Ashley's name because it is clearly upsetting Becky - which I assume is not your goal here.

Also, you may need to doublecheck that you don't actually have feelings for Ashley because if you are always thinking about her - well that may be something you need to think about.

Good Luck!!!

i think she is somewhat jealous of your closeness to ashley and she's probably been trying to keep it in, but when she said that, all her feelings just erupted. i think you should stop talking less about ashley, especially if you want this girl to like you. i know i'd feel really jealous if i liked a guy and he kept talking about another girl and how great she is. just put yourself in her shoes. imagine you liked her and she kept bringing up this other guy in all your conversations, wouldn't you be jealous. also, if she's keeping track of all these other times you've mentioned ashley's name, than she's definately got something for you. well, good luck and stop mentioning ashley!!

she probably wants you to focus on her in the conversation and not "Ashley". it could be a sign of jealousy because she likes you or she is full of herself
