I totally agree. How can people think that God exists when there's so much inequality in the world and on one hand, there are so manh people starving while on the other, there are rich brats who just throw tantrums when they're asked to eat something.

"For those of us who believe in a benevolent God"
I don't know if you are implying that we are aware of all gods plans.
Because there are SO many things we do not know
Only God knows what he is doing.
And I do not believe this is one of gods works.
Humans have more than you think to do with starved children
I cannot help but wonder what the true purpose of your question was. I hope that we realize that we are all on the same page and there is no need to create separations between us just because we have different theories on how that world came to be Just like scientists we cannot prove or disprove anything. All we have are "theories" . So lets just focus on the present now since its all we can really prove and work together to make lives better instead of wasting time
trying to be right.
But I tell you this, Starving children has opened up the hearts and minds of many people and so many of us are out there
trying to help. Not just children but people with HIV.
Educating people about this virus can help prevent it.
I see all the help as a sign of God that not everything is lost.
And that there are still good people out there and we bring hope. But it doesn't matter how you and I view things as long as we are working together for a better tomorrow.
:)

Simply put, they are the plan. God will not violate His own laws. He made a promise to Israel, and unless the break the covenant first, He will not. Before God made any kind of covenant with any group of people or any one individual He made one all important covenant with Humankind...free-will. Now God hates what He sees here. Jesus himself stated that if anyone harms a child it will be as though that person had a milestone around their neck and cast into the depths of the ocean. So God hates starving children, children forced into armies, pedophiles, etc. But God will not step in directly to do something about it because He made a promise, and if God broke just one of His laws what worth would any of them be. So these starving children have everything to do with corrupt governments and selfish, greedy hearts than anything to do with God. The important thing to be asking is, since God is watching and keeping score, what am I doing to allow this to happen? More importantly, so that I do not excuse this, how do I change this. My wife and I donate money to various organizations to assist these children. Right now she is about to start med.school to do mission work in these regions to help these children. I would like to point out something very important here...don't be self-righteous. Many people are retarded enough to think they are helping little poor kids in developing countries by not buying products made by child labor....bear in mind this country was built on the backs or repressed imigrants, women and children...as well as through the blood of slaves. These kids having jobs is a GOOD THING, cause when they don't they child sex trade explodes. Go to these countries. Leave your self-righteous side in the States, and talk to the parents of these 'sweat shop' kids. They can't afford to put them in school, even though schooling is free (so this makes only the rich kids eligible) as the family needs an income. So often times, when their child cannot work they either find themselves engaged in crime or the child is sold off. So what are we all doing to stop this?

They don't fit into God's plan. God says, those of us who are in positions of power (financially) are supposed to be helping them (Proverbs - "He who hears the cry of the poor and does not answer, he too shall cry out and not be heard.") . Each and every American should sacrafice some of the many, MANY luxuries we have, and do something for somebody else. Many people find it hard to believe, but it IS possible to live without TV, DSL, cars, etc. If each person were to just sacrafice one of these things, and help another family in another country, hunger could end. It would cost just a few billion to effectively deal with hunger, rather than the hundreds of billions we spend on war each year.

First of all you have to understand that God didn't bring this upon us, but we. It is we who sinned against him that brought starvation, war, ect to this earth. It's like this: You see a wrecked car. You ask, "Why was it made this way?" The answer is it wasn't made that way. It was a good car, but it was the one driving it that ruined it. I know that's a poor example, but you get the picture. The earth was perfect, but we mess it up because we don't want to follow God. Thankfully God made a salvation plan to save us from the most horrible place, Hell. But only if we believe in God and what Jesus did on the cross can we be saved.

It is because of we humans, that we have starving children. America over uses more than the rest of the world under uses. God's plan is that you repent of your sins and then do good works from a grateful heart.

how many people are helping them?
also, think about this :
why, if you are starving, would you have more kids? is it to watch them starve, or would you just have a warped sense of humor? yes, i am being sarcastic...they have been starving for the past 35 years, i remember hearing my mother telling me, "there are starving children in Africa, so, finish your plate"
how long are they going to be starving before they die?

I can't claim to know God's intentions, but I see it as a test for those of us who have the ability to help. If everyone would just donate the price of one CD...... we are so materialistic, I see bling on dogs.... when kids are starving to death.

God thinks humans are more fun to watch when their lives are unfair. It's just like when sports become lest interesting when there's too much parody among teams.
