I guess I would probably let someone look in my bag. I haven't stolen much more than a glance since I was 8 and stole that piece of hot dog gum from the 7-11 and had to pay the consequences. Ugh.
But now that I am older (39), I think I would just as soon not allow anybody to look in my purse. It's none of their business. Likely as not, I'd probably remember that I put something in there because I didn't pick up a cart, and then forgot about that object and wind up blushing to beat the band. Getting senile in my old age.

Completely aware of the feeling. In my time of dealing with the public I was robbed 29 times and did 100s of police reports on thieves and various assaults both inside and outside the stores.
It is definitely difficult to believe in the good that people can do.

I used to steel all the time it got so bad I wouldn't even know i had stolen certain things. Then I became a true christian.
I had to stop and check all my pockets. It was sad. So I would apprehensively give you my bag and hope nothing was in it.
Now though I haven't stole anything for 7+ years.
YOU CAN HAVE MY BAG!

If this is a metaphor, I have nothing to hide, but why would you want to root around through my life? That is just weird.
If you mean a real bag ... well, if you can find my bag, help yourself ... then bring it back: I put it down this morning and haven't seen it since. It may well be on it's way to Cornwall.

Such a request is a sign of aggression. It is a call for obedience and an order for submission. Some people do not take kindly to that whether or not they are guilty. I can usually tell the difference when someone is just doing their job or when they are being rude. I respond accordingly.

No, the metaphor is rather bad. I would rather not allow people to have open access to my life.. What is this Catholicism or something?
I'm sure everyone has "skeletons" in their closet. Sorry but most of the answers saying that they would be fine with it probably would not like people sorting through their garbage looking at their bills. They just answered to make themselves look better.. I'd rather not lie and let out.. I'm not interested in sharing portions of my life with other people, simply because a lot of people are vile creatures that like to take advantage of you at every oportunity they get.

Hey, look away, but I'd open it for you and have you look inside, because I've seen people get framed before, so you can only see my bag as long as I get to open every zipper or pocket you need to see.... what would you find? Hmmm, a pack of gum, my make up, wallet, keys, lotion, and chapstick.

You can look in my bag, on one condition: when you find nothing out of the ordinary, I require a formal apology for wasting my time read over the public address system.

Look in my bag all you want. I'm not a thief and I keep my weed in a secret compartment in the tongue of my shoe.
