I will guaranteed fixing the lens problem will cost you more than buying a new one. I suggest just buying another camera..

In terms of fixing, just go to a local camera shop they should fix it for you... it's gonna be pricey tho..

I had a problem with one like that and it turns out the batteries were very weak. When they drove the motor to bring the lens out they quit and it never moved out. Recharge cured it.

If you have a serious mechanical problem like beach sand caught in there you will not have it solved by tomorrow even if you took it to a camera store (because they typically have a backlog and can take a week or two to get to it).

1. Weak batteries
2. Batteries inserted incorrectly (check picture on battery cover)
3. Cheap, non-NiMH or Lithium batteries. (never use "heavy-duty")
4. Rechargable camera needs a full charge.

Usually, if the batteries aren't providing enough power, the camera won't be fully operational.
