I'm just curious to see what people do to pick a date. My bf's sister picked 8-8-08, cuz it's cute. My parents did March 23, cuz 23 is my mom's favorite number.
I've heard of people using their birthdays to make a date - how is that done? I'm guessing it depends on when your birthdays are as to how you can combine them.
What else do people do, though?

niki - I was thinking of the same thing! Plus, 3 is my favorite number, and my bf and I started dating in May (over 3 years ago). We aren't sure if we'll be able to get married next spring, though, (I've always wanted a spring wedding) since it's only 6 months away. We aren't going to have a big wedding (50 people at most), so I suppose 6 months is still possible - we'll see what happens.

We picked 10/18/08 because we got together 2/18 and there are 18 days between our birthdays (10/18 and 11/05), so it just seemed like a good time for us plus his birthday is easy for him to remember. also 10+08=18 lol. It's a good number for us.

We changed the date 3 times. The first was Oct 13, 2007 because my favorite number was 13. But we wanted to push back the date a little, so then it was May 21, 2008, because both of our birthdays are in May. Now we finally decided on August 20, 2008 which will be the 4th anniversary of our first kiss. I know whatever date we pick will be special, but that's what we want to do. Some people seem to have a problem with a couple wanting to get married on a date that is special to them. I don't see why the hell it should even matter to them. Sorry, got a little off the topic =)

A couple of factors went into it...we wanted to get married next year since we really don't feel like waiting forever. Especially since I'll be 35 by then and he'll be 39. I wanted to finish school (hopefully graduating in May) first. June would have been too difficult to schedule since it is the height of wedding season (and that would have shaved two months off planning time as we just got engaged in September). July wouldn't have been much better. We had to do it before football season started becaues not only are we huge college football fans (Go Bucks! Roll Tide!) but so are most of our friends so we couldn't do what so many have already done and made everyone sit through a wedding when we'd much rather be watching football. We narrowed it down to August 16 and 23 and everything was available on the 16th so we went ahead with it.

Well my fiance and I started dating 12/12/04 and 12 is one of my favorite numbers. We're getting married in Maine so December isn't a good idea to have an outside wedding, so I decided half of that is June - a good month - so 6/12/08, but that's a Thursday so we pushed it to the next Saturday : 6/14/08! And that's how we got our date! We'll probably just always celebrate the 12th though because thats what we really wanted.

We knew we needed some time to save enough money, and we knew that we wanted an outdoor wedding, so that left fall and spring. The fall was a little too soon (and the venues we were interested in were already booked), so we went for the next spring. We settled on May 31, 2008 because we thought that had the best chance of being decent weather, without being Memorial Day weekend (we'll have people flying in and didn't want them to have to deal with holiday travel), or my nephew's college graduation weekend. We then talked to family to be sure we hadn't overlooked some reason that it would be inconvenient, and we booked the venue!

I always wanted a spring wedding when I was younger. We began dating in March, which would have been perfect but he proposed in June. That would leave us about 9 months. We have to save money and I wanted sufficient time to plan the wedding. Our parents are paying for 75% of it but we still have to pay for the rest, the honeymoon and an out of state move we are planning this year. We decided on a fall wedding.
We are getting married in his hometown of MS and it's really hot until Nov. So we picked Nov. My parent's anniversary is the 21st and we didn't want be exactly like them. We also wanted to have enough time after halloween and before thanksgiving, so we came up with the 15th. This way if we decide to take a small trip for our anniversary it won't interfere with children's trick or treating or thanksgiving.

Well, I got braces for the 2nd time a month after we got engaged, so that automatically meant we had to wait at least 12-14 months. Then we wanted an outdoor wedding when it wouldn't be too hot/cold. For where we live, fall is the perfect time. So then we planned for the middle of October when leaves would be changing. And that's how we picked Oct. 18, 08...just under a year to go!

Our date-setting strategy was not that exciting. We picked a date based on when the venue was available. My partner and I decided that we wanted the wedding to be within 6 months or so of becoming engaged. So...when we found the Perfect Venue (it's awesome, by the way), we looked at their calendar and asked them what dates they had available in the time frame we were interested in. They had December 29th and February 2nd...then nothing else until May. Dec 29th was too close to Christmas and New Year's, so we picked February 2nd.
very original, I know! (ha!)

I always knew I wanted a summer wedding. My favorite day of the entire year hands down is the first day of summer. the summer solstice, June 21. So I wanted it as close to that day as possible. The venue I chose only had 1 day in June available and that is June 14, 2008. Therefore I compromised because I wanted the location and she has the opening so I took it. As long as I get married in June I will be happy.

We wanted it during the warm weather season and on the beach.
So we chose June 21, 2008 with a few other dates just in case our date was booked up. We chose this date because it was between Memorial and Independence Day so we wouldn't be trampling too much on people's holiday plans.
We ended up making it June 20, 2008 because for that Saturday, the event hall wanted $5,000 more!! So we settled with June 20th.
