Do skinny, unfit people burn the same amount of calories as skinny fit people when they exercise equal amounts?

not even close, less muscle mass means less biologically active tissue that performs work and burns energy.

here is an example:

100 lb woman @ 25 % body fat has 75 lbs of non-fat (muscle)
200 lb woman @ 50% body fat has 100 lbs of non-fat

a 100 lb woman performing cardio on the treadmill for 30 minutes on level 4 with no incline will burn substantially less calories than a 200 lb woman performing the same workout.

the 200 lb woman will have a higher BMR than the lighter woman and burn more calories during exercise due to the 25 lbs of additional muscle mass that her body has to support.

no, because people who have been building up their endurance and working out alot have been building muscle. the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn in a day at rest. If you work out the same, you may burn just as many calories but in a day, they typically will be burning more since they have more muscle built up.
