We've seen a few turtles on the North Shore. We found a public beach access in an area of private houses, and there were turtles down there, but just a few. I've heard there are areas where there's loads of turtles, maybe over by Kailua someplace? Does anyone know?

I would never try to "ride" a turtle! We have the utmost respect for them and think they're beautiful. We have gotten close to one before and touched it - to see what its skin felt like. Is that okay or should we not do that either?

Seeing a turtle here in Hawaii is kind of like looking for whales. There's no real place that they like to hang out, they hang out all over the place wherever there is an abundance of limu (seaweed) for them to munch on.
Keep in mind that if you are looking for turtles, that they are a protected species so don't get too close to them. Also, they have a nasty protective territory instinct so they will chase you if you get too close to their area. Lastly, turtles are shark's favorite food so where there are lots of turtles, there are lots of sharks too.
Good luck and happy hunting!

I would say I see em on the North Shore the most. If you can get a room at the Sheraton Waikiki, you can see em right in front of the hotel too.

laniakea beach on the north shore. it's on kamehameha highway, not too far before waimea bay.
every time i go there, there's several turtles swimming around.
if you're lucky enough to spot one in the water, swim towards them and you can feed them seaweed. they'll eat it right out of your hand.
(just make sure the people patrolling the beach don't see you. =P)

I would try Hunama Bay. I'm not sure if I spelled it right as it has been a while since I have been in Oahu.

Refer to the links, below, but, please keep in mind that these are living creatures, and not "toys"(I cringe at any tourist operation that "rides" the turtles)!
Pomaika'i, ko'u hoaloha! (Good luck, my friend!)
