I have a closet full of cookbooks the one I use the most is the one in my head. I have used them all at one time or another and I have tweaked each recipe to make just the way our family likes it. Then I put in a book of my own and now I know them all by heart I share them with our friends and family. I do not measure anymore. I am old and I can just tell by looking and everyone loves my cooking.

Hot, Sour, Salty, Sweet : A Culinary Journey Through Southeast Asia by Alford & Duguid. Wonderful cookbook, wonderful recipes, and amazing photography.
The authors have created other travel/cookbooks as well, and all are highly recommended.

The Purity all purpose flour cookbook. My aunt had a tradition going of giving everyone this cookbook for their wedding shower. I learned to cook with this. Every recipe in it is good. and is mostly plain ordinary comfort food. This is where I get my recipe for white cake, pie, tea biscuits, rolls etc... everything always turns out. I have tons of cookbooks, and I regularly give some away, but I always keep this one.

For Spanish recipes from the grand dame of Tampa, FL restauranteurs, you've got to have "Clarita's Cocina", by Clarita Garcia. She and her husband, Manuel, owned the Las Novedades Restaurant in Tampa, which was over 80 years old before it closed in 1974. The recipes are mostly from the restaurant, but some of their family recipes, too. We use this cookbook a lot. It's still in print and available from Amazon.com or Borders.com and large chain bookstores.

I got mine in the Cook Islands from a restaurant called The Flame Tree and the book is called the same thing. Great recipes! Everything in their restaurant was awesome and all the recipes are in the book.

Any cookbook works for me...I have over a thousand in my collection and not only use every one of them, but I had read every one of them, cover to cover, like some people read novels (and most of them I have read several times to make sure I haven't missed a thing). No one ever has to question what to get me for a gift! :))
