Im not sure I understand the question. But The Balls in the box's don't go bad. You can throw them in a closet and use them 10 years from now and they would be fine

Awhile ago, Taylormade made balls, and sold them in plastic canisters because they said over time, your balls would absorb moisture and that would gradually degrade their performance. I don't remember the numbers exactly, but I believe they said after 2-3 years a typical ball would lose 10-15% of it's distance. This would make sense because of the type of material that is used in golf ball covers, but I don't know how accurate the actual numbers are.

I personally don't buy more than a couple months worth of balls, but if you get a deal on a year's supply or so, that should not be a problem. I wouldn't use 5 year old balls in any kind of competition, if for nothing else than because 5 year balls are outdated and just about anything you buy will be better.

I know old men that are still using new balls from the 70's at the Springtown Golf Course in Livermore. The balls have a room temp shelflife of like forever. Extreme heat and cold can affect the play of the ball though. Cold balls are like hitting rocks, and balls that have been put into heat have a tendency to be too soft and you can split the cover. As long as you don't live in alaska, keep them for your grandkids. Im sure they will appreciate the antiques.

A very long time if kept a reasonable temperatures. If you are storing them some place that has extreme temperature differences they will not last as long, but they will still last a long time.
