Hell is the common grave

Hell

Definition: The word “hell” is found in many Bible translations. In the same verses other translations read “the grave,” “the world of the dead,” and so forth. Other Bibles simply transliterate the original-language words that are sometimes rendered “hell”; that is, they express them with the letters of our alphabet but leave the words untranslated. What are those words? The Hebrew she’ohl´ and its Greek equivalent hai´des, which refer, not to an individual burial place, but to the common grave of dead mankind; also the Greek ge´en·na, which is used as a symbol of eternal destruction. However, both in Christendom and in many non-Christian religions it is taught that hell is a place inhabited by demons and where the wicked, after death, are punished (and some believe that this is with torment).

Does the Bible indicate whether the dead experience pain?

Eccl. 9:5, 10: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all . . . All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol,* the place to which you are going.” (If they are conscious of nothing, they obviously feel no pain.) (*“Sheol,” AS, RS, NE, JB; “the grave,” KJ, Kx; “hell,” Dy; “the world of the dead,” TEV.)

Ps. 146:4: “His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts* do perish.” (*“Thoughts,” KJ, 145:4 in Dy; “schemes,” JB; “plans,” RS, TEV.)

Scriptures tell us that, "Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face the judgement" (Hebrews 9:27), so we all will die a physical death. But our spiritual death is defined by separation from God. Although, Hell's exact description is not clear, scriptures do tell us that it is far from God's presence. Eternal separation from anything good, righteous, holy, Godly and pleasing would be a spiritual death - eternity in Hell. Thankfully, through the sacrifice and ressurection of Jesus Christ, we have the opportunity for salvation, amen!

Ahhh... Someone who is beginning to think!!! :-)>

Indeed, what is hell for? And do you know what hell really is, in the first place? Most people don't.

God has said that those who sin will DIE, not live forever in torment! And Jesus confirmed it:
Ezekiel 18:4 -- "Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.
Matthew 10:28 -- And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Now the word 'hell' in Matthew 10:28 comes from the word 'Gehenna', which means the Valley of Hinnom. It was a place near Jerusalem that was used as a garbage dump, and the dead bodies of criminals were cast there also. So, Jesus used this well known place as a metaphor for what awaits unrepentant sinners. But this was a metaphor for the Lake of Fire, mentioned in the book of Revelation (19:20, 20:10-15). This is where all who do not turn from a sinful life style will be left to burn up completely.
Malachi 4:3 -- You shall trample the wicked, For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet On the day that I do this," Says the Lord of hosts.

Now, one more thing you should be aware of -- people don't go to this destruction until AFTER they have been judged -- NOT immediately after the first death. This "hell" does not yet exist. And for most of the past, present and near future population of the earth, this judgment has not yet been given. Judgment has only come upon the saints at this time (1 Peter 4:17) -- those who have received the holy spirit of God, those who have come to know God.

But the vast majority of people have not known the one true God. That opportunity will not be given to them until AFTER they have been resurrected to a second physical life (read Ezekiel 37 and Revelation 20:11-12).

So, to find out what hell is for, you will have to go back to the original languages of the Bible and find out what those words mean, as well as, search the Bible and study what it says about death, judgment, resurrection, saints, sin, wickedness, eternal life, etc..

God did give us the gift of eternal life. But, he also gave us free will to choose whether or not we accept Jesus Christ, as our savior or not. For he is the ticket to heaven. That is up to us. If we choose not to accept him into our lives and aknowledge the fact that he is the Messiah who suffered and shed his blood for the forgiveness of our sins, we are not invited to recieve his eternal gift of heaven, instead whether we like it or not we still get the gift of eternal life, only for this we will get it in hell. Believe in Jesus, he is the way to paradise.

You have to accept the Gift of God.
A gift is only good to the one who opens it.

In effect, God does not send a person to Hell, a person ignores the path to Heaven and chooses Hell.

If Life and God are eternal, the Hell is part of death, which is only mis-understanding Life!

The two things you speak of is like two boats sailing on the see.

when " A " is sailing on the sinful boat ,at a certain distance it breaks off and A's life is on risk.

But there is an yet another boat which is called the Gift of God boat . A is expected to and invited to enter in to the Gift of God boat which is a life -saving one .

But ,please tell me what will happen if A refuses to prefer or enter in to the Gift of God boat.

Jesus is the Gift of God boat .Whoever refuses to enter into it just sinks into the ocean of eternal death ( Hell ) .That's all.

Hell is the word translated from Hebrew--Sheol and Greek--Hades. They mean the grave not a place of torture. The Bible shows the dead are not able to feel or remember anything. (Eccles. 9:5, 10; Ps. 146:3-4)

No torture. God does not torture.
