one recess is not going to do him any harm. He will be fine. If it was more then one and he got in to all or the candy they you should worry.

Make sure he does not get any more of your tasty treats.

I wouldn't worry about the chocolate as much as the wrapper. Chocolate is bad for dogs, but milk chocolate is not nearly as dangerous as bakers chocolate. My dog got into a whole bag of hershey kisses (wrappers and all) and was fine- he had shiny foil in his poop for a few days though. If it was just the brown inner wrapper I'm sure he's ok, if he got the orange outer wrapper too I'd just watch for it to come out and if your dog starts to get sick call the vet! Best of luck. Things like this happen to the best of us. Pets can be sneaky.

How much chocolate did the dog eat? That is the big question. A dog actually has to eat quite a bit of chocolate before it becomes lethal. The dog might get sick from it but will probably survive. However, if the dog ate a lot of chocolate then a trip to the vet might be in order.

The dog should be fine.

Chocolate has toxins, but it isn't as lethal as people often think. (Some people think chocolate is like instant death for dogs.)

Chocolate is only lethal in high doses. The chemical theobromine is the toxic portion. Milk chocolate has less theobromine than dark chocolate. Bakers chocolate has more theobromine than both dark and milk chocolate. So bakers chocolate is the worst for dogs to have, and milk chocolate is less dangerous.

The below text (between the double lines) is quoted from: http://www.talktothevet.com/ARTICLES/DOGS/chocolatetoxic.HTM
========
On average,
Milk chocolate contains 44 mg of theobromine per oz.
Semisweet chocolate contains 150mg/oz.
Baker's chocolate 390mg/oz.

Using a dose of 100 mg/kg as the toxic dose it comes out roughly as:
1 ounce per 1 pound of body weight for Milk chocolate
1 ounce per 3 pounds of body weight for Semisweet chocolate
1 ounce per 9 pounds of body weight for Baker's chocolate.

So, for example, 2 oz. of Baker's chocolate can cause great risk to an 15 lb. dog. Yet, 2 oz. of Milk chocolate usually will only cause digestive problems.
========

(White chocolate contains 1 mg of theobromine per oz. So that is virtually none. Essentially no risk of theobromine poisoning with white chocolate.)

The average candybar is under 2 oz and is made of milk chocolate. So unless the dog is under 2 pounds, it isn't a "toxic dose".

I would be more concerned about the wrapper (causing an internal blockage) than the candy. If you dog starts having problems like it is unable to defecate (i.e. poop), then take it to the vet. Most likely you won't have any problems though.

Your dog will be fine. Every year for my dog's birthday, we buy her a single cake from Wal-Mart, with a bowl of milk. She always eats the whole cake, and drinks all the milk. She is almost 6 years old now, and she loves chocolate!!! She is also a very fat, healthy pup!
You will have a mess to clean up when he poops out that wrapper, though!!

He should be just fine. Sounds like he gets in to trouble a lot, though, so try to monitor him as much as possible to prevent any further trouble. Chocolate can be toxic to a dog, so I suggest keeping a very close watch on him and keep a phone handy if he suddenly becomes ill.

Yes, he'll be fine. He'll pass the wrapper in a couple of days. Chocolate doesn't kill dogs in small amounts, just if he ate like a 4 lbs brick of it. And even then he'd probably still be ok. Dont' worry about it, he'll be fine.

Yes, he'll be okay. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs, but 1 reeses peanut butter cup isn't going to kill him! You should keep an eye on him for the next day or two, but he should be fine. From now on, keep it up high, like on top of the refrigerator, where he can't get to it.

If it's chocolate take it to the vet immediately. Still take your dog to the vet. He could go into annaphalatic shock. It's not the paper that will kill him, but the chocolate is poison and the sugar can kill him if he's too small or too young.
