Just keep her away from males for the next three weeks. Do not leave her outside unsupervised, even in her own yard.

I'm sure that as long as you keep her on a leash whilst outside, there will be no way of you NOT being able to prevent her from getting pregnant. If you'd like to let her run around freely outside, just keep the leash on her again so you can grab it if a male comes about. If this still bothers you, you can always substitue playtime outside for inside. Play fetch if there's a big enough area inside, or just keep plently of toys and chews for her to stay busy. Take her outside to go potty SUPERVISED, and you'll be fine.

As for the cycle, The average is three weeks (21 days). But it can be shorter (two weeks) or longer (four weeks). Assume the longer period if in doubt.

She should be assumed to be fertile the entire 21 day heat cycle. While there are times when she may not be receptive to a male, it's best not guess, and males will be attracted to her the entire time. You are right to keep her indoors until its over. Get her spayed ASAP. It is easier if you can wait till the heat is over, but dogs in heat can be spayed - it's just a bit more complicated and a little more expensive to do.

She'll be most fertile the week after she stops bleeding - Heat cycles are generally 3 weeks, but since it's her first, it's totally unpredictable.

Make the appointment now to have her spayed in 1 1/2 weeks or so.

You want to keep her away from male dogs throughout her entire cycle, which will be about 3 more weeks. Don't even leave her in your yard unsupervised.

a heat cycle last about 3 weeks
I wouldn't let her out of eyesite and leshed for at least 3 weeks form start and I would do for 4 weeks to be safe.
