I tired taking paxil and it was a nightmare. I want something to help me with my emotions. Does anyone have any advice? St John's wart?

Aside from St. John's Wort, I agree with the exercise suggestion. Exercise creates endorphins. I would also suggest helping others in some way, whether it be through a social organization, volunteering your time and efforts, or merely helping your neighbors, friends, people in the supermarket, etc. The positive feedback you get from people will boost your own emotions.
Although the Paxil did not work for you, doesn't mean another antidepressant won't work. Some people have to go through a trial of quite a few before finding one that will work for them.
Best thing to do is to see a counselor who will diagnose your symptoms, not just randomly prescribe something like an m.d. will. My psychiatrist had me go for a thyroid test to rule out any physical aspects first, and cognitive therapy was perhaps the best thing I did for myself.
Good luck to you.

EXCERCISE:
Release endorphins, clear your brain, get some fresh air, feel better about yourself
GET A PLAN:
A lot of depression is anger at feeling not in control. Make a plan and take some action on whatever it is that is bothering you and when you feel in control not controlled by your problems they won't depress you. If you hate your job make a plan of what you could do instead - you don't have to do it but having a plan will help you to not feel trapped in your job.
TRAIN YOUR BRAIN:
This works according to a study. While you are going to sleep make yourself think of 5 positive or happy things that happened that day. You could also keep a journal of the good things that happen to you. By learning to focus on the good things that happen to you and not always the negative ones you will be a happier person.
VOLUNTEER (good one)
Take the focus off your problems onto someone else's
TALK to someone or keep a journal
Airing your feelings helps to put them into perspective.

Saint Johns wart is a great herb-no side affects. It is natural and will not hurt you. Beyond that, exercise. I don't mean to run out and take out a membership at the local gym-go for a walk daily. Get a puppy if you can-they are great for the spirit-they love unconditionally and never talk back.

Go back to your doctor and have him prescribe something else, there are much better drugs out there. Paxil works for very few people. With anti depressants it is try and change until you find the right one for you. My husband take Effexor and Wellbutrin and Abilify. For natural try St John's Wort, until you can get to your doctor

Eat healthy, Exercise regularly, and have lots of Sex. Sex is about as natural of an antidepressant you can find. Exercise releases more of the good pleasing hormones than one cigarette does and eating healthy just makes you feel good!

I would try St. John's Wort for awhile. If it doesn't help then I would go see the doctor. Watch what you eat too. Some foods and drinks can make depression worse.

I'm taking st. johns wart. So far so good. It's not as overly noticable as say a paxil, but I'm highly sensitive to medication and I like not having the side effects.

Come back to the UK. Things change so don't think you will always feel this way. Keep applying for jobs and money will buy you more options. Keep your faith and keep moving forward. Things will become clearer in time, trying to work it all out will drive you mad.
