There are several different climate zones and the one that you describe is called Tropical Moist Climate or Rainforest, it's given the abbreviation Af because it's in climate group A, subgroup f.

This climate zone is found quite extensively in South America and Africa close to the equator and is also found to a lesser extent in Southeast Asia.

Here's a map showing all the climate zones, tropical moist is the area shaded in light magenta http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/climate.htm

Just a bit of further info. The planet leans at an angle 23.5 degrees in space. There are imaginery lines around the planet at 23.5 degrees north and south of the equator and these are the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. Whenever we talk about a tropical region it is, be definition, somewhere that lies between these two imaginery lines. Similarly, the Arctic and Antarctic Circles are an imaginery line 23.5 degrees south and north of the true north and south poles.
