I'm visiting NY early next year and will still be 18 at the time. Here in the UK I can legally go to clubs/bars and buy alcohol but I've heard in NY only over 21s can. Is this true for tourists? Is there any way I can go clubbing with my over 21 friends whilst there?

Welcome to the US.. No drinks for you. Unless you are a socialite or celebrity, you cannot step foot into a club with alcohol.. If you do and get caught, you could be arrested for underage drinking. Sorry.. try Mexico..

No, you can't buy alcohol.
However, there are plenty of bars and clubs that you only have to be 18 to get into. Tons of college students under 21 go out all the time in NYC and drink. Its the norm. People over 21 can buy you drinks, just don't make it obvious that you are under 21.

While you will not be able to drink, there are plenty of clubs that allow 18 and over. Just be sure to have your ID or passport with you. You will have to show ID to get in. You just won't get a bracelet/stamp/or other "I'm 21+" identifiers to buy alcohol.
You'll have to do a little homework on the club to see if they are 18 and over. Otherwise, you'll just have to show up and ask.

No. Think about it -- if "tourists" were allowed to drink here at a different age, "British passports" would proliferate among US teenagers soooooo fast...
There are clubs and music halls you can get into at 18, but they will not be the "hip" ones of the moment, they may charge you a higher cover fee for being underage, and you should do your research well in advance.

You will not be able to get served in any bar - and if someone over 21 gets caught buying for you, they can be arrested.
There are some places that allow those under 21 to enter - most of them either have a restaurant attached or feature live music. Best to look into any places beforehand to avoid embarassment.

It's just not in New York. You won't be able to buy alcohol anywhere in the US until you're 21, and this applies to everyone. Do what we did when we were only 18 and go to Montreal.

No, NYS is 21 and over, even when you're touristing. You wil not be able to go clubbing in NYC.

THERE ARE PLENTY OF CLUBS THAT HAVE 18 TO PARTY..AND 21 TO DRINK. BUT YOU MUST BE 21 TO DRINK!
