Are you going to get in trouble for it? Probably not.
This all dates back to when barbers used to shave everyone who walked in the door... Anyone who comes near you with very sharp objects needs a license to practice.

Lol, you are making too much of it. I always watch the hairdresser in the mirror because she asks me if I want more cut off, more thinned, etc. and I have to see my hair to know how to answer that! At other times I just look at myself or at stuff around the room or at a magazine. Don't stare at other people because they might think you're a creep. Just do what feels comfortable and don't think too much.
