Yes, we have to give up our selfish lusts in order to receive full blessings from the riches of God's grace. It's a terrific deal but not absolutely free, else He would be rewarding sin.

This is in regard to spiritual wisdom, not 'God, I want a new car. or God I want riches.
One of many scriptures that help us to understand, that we need spiritual wisdom.
Ecclesiastes 5: 2 Do not hurry yourself as regards your mouth; and as for your heart, let it not be hasty to bring forth a word before the [ true ] God. For the [ true ] God, is in the heavens but you are on the earth. That is why your words should prove to be few. 3 For a dream certainly comes in because of abundance of occupation, and the voice of the stupid one because of the abundance of words. 4 Whenever you vow a vow to God, do not hesitate to pay it, for there is no delight in the stupid ones, What you vow, pay. 5 Better is it that you vow not than that you vow and do not pay. 7 ....Fear the [ true] God
So tis not what we can receive [materially] it's what we give him; that he requires of us.

If you give to recieve, all you get is what you receive. If you give with no thought of receiving, the receiving will out weigh the giving. The true fact is that "giving "IS" receiving!"

I think you definitely have to give to receive, no matter what religion or God you believe in.

No, but when you DO receive, it is nice to give something back by sharing. Not to be generous in turn when you have received generosity is a little .... ummmm ... greedy.

You need to ask with pure intention. If you ask for something that is harmful to other or yourself it won't work.

What if someone has faith in God, and asks them for something that they will use for evil?
