I agree that your dog needs veterinary care. It could be an allergic reaction or a result of physical injury.

Hi,
My male Golden Retriever (Bogart) had this happen to him last year. He had it twice actualy. He also was around a year old. We never really found out what it was but one time I think it was a allergic reaction to a insect bite, we think Spider or such on his cheeck he had a little wound and his whole face swelled up his ears were swollen, his chops SP?, his eyes were swollen shot. I called my Vet and got an apointment in right that morning. He got a Benedryl shot and my Vet told me that if this happens again to hit him hard with the Benedryl the first time around 75 mg and then 50 mg later in the day. Like I said it happend twice last year the second time I wasn't as freaked out and kind of knew what to do. I still called my Vet and we spoke on the phone. When the swelling wasn't down the next day he told me to give him a Clairatin pill for 4/5 days and it worked wonders. Everything cleared up and he hasn't had any trouble ever since.
I don't know if your girl has an allergic reaction to something but it sure sounds like it. I hope she is okay until tomorrow. Personaly I wouldn't wait that long to see my Vet.

I have a boxer that woke me up one morning with her face so swollen i couldn't see her eyes. I called the vet and they said she had probably gotten into something she was allergic to(a plant or bug) and to give her a Benadryl twice a day. It went a way after a day or so and now every once in a while she will swell up a little but not like the first time. Hope every thing goes ok.

This sounds as if she has been stung by either a wasp or a bee. You could try giving her an anti-histamine tablet if you have any in the house.
It's good you are taking her to the vet tomorrow but try the tablet and the swelling should start to go down. This has happened to my Goldens in the past and I always take this course of action.
Hope she recovers quickly.

The same thing happened to my daschund. We had to take him to the emergency vet clinic (that is open weekends and after hours) We never found out if it was a bug bite or something that he ate. The vet ended up giving him a antihistamine shot. Also, I was told that I could give him 1/2 a tablet of 30mg benadryl if it happens again. You really should take him to the emergency vet.

wrey 1 is right -- it sounds like an allergic reaction and Benedryl is the correct thing to give. My dog had the same thing happen, Benedryl helped a LOT.
If your dog starts to drool excessively or has any trouble breathing -- RUN RUN RUN to the vet, call and tell them you are coming and RUN.
Hopefully it won't come to that. Good luck.

aspirin will not help swelling.
Give her a 25 mg tablet or capsule of benedryl. It will help stop the allergic reaction. If she is getting worse or having difficulty breathing or not eating or drinking she should be seen today. Otherwise if the benedryl works she can see the vet tomorrow.

She could of possibly be having an allergic reaction to something. Was she outside when you noticed the swelling? I would get her into the vet ASAP, because she will be need to be given an antihistamine injection to reverse whatever reaction this may be.

This could be a tooth problem,is she rubbing her mouth with her paw or on the carpet?it also could be many other things so a vet is the only answer.best of luck.

I'd get her to the vet right away because infections near the brain can cause big problems.
