I am getting ready start a new routine of gaining muscle and burning fat at the same time..I am mixing cardio with weight lifting, ..before I go on, for those of you who have already read what I just said and are getting ready to tell me,"its impossible to do both at the same time"...you're dead wrong, because I've seen it be done, and I've done it myself...but for those who know it can be done..my basica question is will protein shakes affect my fat loss? even if its just simple whey proten(low in calories and carbs)

No, it shouldn't at all. Its all about how many calories you put in your body and how many you expend through exercise. Protein will not turn into fat as readily as carbohydrates will, infact you will pee out excess protein if its not used. People who are trying to gain muscle mass generally use the 40% protein-40% carbohydrate- 20% fat, caloric breakdown. Figure out how many calories you should be getting each day and then calculate how many calories of each you should be getting. Also, you should take the shakes before and after workouts, like the other guy stated, because you won't give your body the chance to burn off the muscle.

Yes, you just have to work those extra calories off. Protein shakes are often high in calories, so as long as you account for the excess, you'll be fine. Whoever told you that you can't build muscle and burn fat at the same time is crazy. Of course you can. The trap people fall into is that they think the protein shake will miraculously build muscle for them. That's ridiculous. You have to work out to build muscle.

of course, excess protein will never impede fat loss. however whether or not your whey shake will help depends on how you use it. whey is fast acting as best used for pre and post workout since it contains 25% BCAA's. for all other times of the day a blended proteins should be used. they have a pronounced anti-catabolic effect when on a reduce calorie diet.
