I used several application which I found in the Internet, free of charge. But voices sound a bit unnatural to me. It is a common knowledge? Or did you meet anyone who liked the computer voices?

Some of these free programs use a common Microsoft Speech Engine, and many come with just one or three voices. You can download more voices and some sound quite good. You can also adjust the speed, pitch, language and pronunciation rules on some of these programs.

The present technology of voice synthesis is to be human like to incorporate the inflection of the human voice.

As strange as it maybe one the companies that produces computer voice synthesis is a Detroit Michigan company by the name Federal Mogul. It has been found in extreme stress that human mind does not immediately respond to a human like voice. But the receiver will respond more quickly to a non-human voice command. This is the reason cockpit voice commands on both commercial and fighters use non-human voices. Even though this does not exactly answer your question I just thought it might be of interest.

Ya, that is kinda the current lay of the land. Free always sounds like a computer, and most people don't like those voices. I use a pay for software Kurzweil, and that has a decent not too computer sounding voice, but you have to shill out $1300 and up for a copy.

The Mac comes with speech synthesis software which is actually quite good. There are options in OS X to have things read out to you.

Personally, I have set my mac to announce the time every hour, which it does.

Speech synthesis software is commonly used by blind and visually impaired users. You can even get 'speech browsers', that will read websites to you.

if it is your first construct, i strongly advise that you dont bypass with a water cooling equipment. bypass for a extreme end air cooler really. believe me cuz it in easy words takes a million tiny mistake with water cooling to coach a 1400£ computing gadget to a pile of scrap metallic
