Your first amendment rights end when your speech causes emotional distress to another person or is unwelcome on private property.

I don't know because I wasn't present at his trial. But he really does seem like a man who is totally consumed with hate.

But the fact that so many of his congregation would follow him in such an activity just bears out what I've thought all along. Religious fundamentalists are ignorant and dangerous people.

Wolves in a sheep costume. Not even a very convincing one at that. They are an extreme example of the zealots in the Bible, and will probably become a stumbling block and excuse for some not to believe the true Gospel.
I couldn't find anything on his trial. Maybe you could provide a link.

Snow White said it best. Phelps is a homophobic swine whose main fear is that people outside his church will see past his facade and out him as the queer he denied being most of his life.

What is it with Republicant's who are gay and can't /won't come out? J. Edgar Hoover, Roy Cohn, Larry Craig, Jim West, Mark Foley, Richard Curtis, the list goes on and on; they've consistantly voted against gay rights, denied their homosexuality, and been outed by the press At least if a Democrat's gay, they're able to admit it, and move on with allowing gay rights, like not being fired or evicted because of whom you love.

I believe that Westboro Baptist Church goes way beyond anything religious and crosses the line into hate. Yes, freedom of religion, or lack there of, but, please don't disrespect others in such an extreme way....

The Westboro Baptist Church and Fred Phelps just prove what I have been saying. Religion is a mental sickness and all who believe in any religion in any way are in FACT mentally sick.

I think Phelps is twisting the word of God to fit his own beliefs and needs to go back home and shut up.

They are a hateful bunch of people who do a huge disservice to Christianity and Christ's name spewing such garbage in Jesus's name. They take something such as a beautiful message from Christ and waste it and make it meaningless with their hatred and garbage that they preach. They make me sick with their garbage message.
