There will be a new children's movie out in December called " The Golden Compass". The movie has been described as "atheism for kids" and is based on the first book of a trilogy entitled "His Dark Materials" that was written by Phillip Pullman. Pullman is a militant atheist and secular humanist who despises C. S. Lewis and the "Chronicles of Narnia". His motivation for writing this trilogy was specifically to counteract Lewis' symbolisms of Christ that are portrayed in the Narnia series.
>
> Clearly, Pullman 's main objective is to bash Christianity and promote atheism. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "my books are about killing God." He has even stated that he wants to "kill God in the minds of children". It has been said of Pullman that he is "the writer the atheists would be praying for, if atheists prayed."
>
> While "The Golden Compass" movie itself may seem mild and innocent, the books are a much different story. In the trilogy, a young streetwise girl becomes enmeshed in an epic struggle to ultimately defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God. Another character, an ex-nun, describes Christianity as "a very powerful and convincing mistake." In the final book, characters representing Adam and Eve eventually kill God, who at times is called YAHWEH. Each book in the trilogy gets progressively worse regarding Pullman 's hatred of Jesus Christ.
>
> "The Golden Compass" is set to premier on December 7, during the Christmas season, and will probably be heavily advertised. Promoters hope that unsuspecting parents will take their children to see the movie, that they will enjoy the movie, and that the children will want the books for Christmas.
>
> Please consider a boycott of the movie and the books. Also, pass this information along to everyone you know. This will help to educate parents, so that they will know the agenda of the movie.

No Cheryl. It sounds to me you are an Atheist and this movie is teaching children hatred of God which is very bad. Don't be ignorant. There are probably plenty of Christian families who wouldn't know any better and take their children to see this movie and this movie making their children think bad things about God. Did you go to the website and read about it and watch the trailer. How the movie teaches that the soul is outside the human body and these kinds of things getting in children's heads is bad.

I didn't write this btw. I just saw it and agreed. A lot of your answers makes me think that you think I wrote it which I didn't. Go see the movie. Take your kids to see the movie, that is your choice. I hate the ignorance of some of you people though. Really.

It's only a movie and he's only an author. Did you feel this way about Harry Potter? Was Rowling trying to turn all of the children into sorcerers? It's as bad as taking your child to see "The Passion of the Christ" (can anyone say overkill, literally).
Why not expose your child to someone else's thoughts? They are far smarter than you give them credit. It's like those 'religious fiction' books (I can't remember what the heck they're called but there was/is a series). I would not have wanted my stepson to have contact with it but in the end he should read things with alternate perspectives so that he has a better understanding of the world. You could read the book(s) with your child and discuss the book. You could do the same with the movie. Discussion and questions are good.

"I didn't write this btw. I just saw it and agreed. A lot of your answers makes me think that you think I wrote it which I didn't."
Please remember that you posted it as if you wrote it. Nothing is in quotes, nothing is referenced (you give a website but say it is to see MORE about the movie, you don't list it as the source.) While I did notice it is a well written piece and a bit more articulate than your other questions, no one should have assumed you did not write it.
Personally, I don't think it's healthy for anyone to teach "hate" for God. However, I don't think we should teach hate for Allah or Buddha or... any other religion either. Additionally, I don't think we should teach hate for atheism.
Every movie involving any religion has an agenda. Please remember that we need to be careful not to suppose that everyone is Christian or that everyone SHOULD be Christian. The month of December is the Christmas season for US (that's "us," not the USA lol), not for everyone. It's ok for people not to be Christian, and it's ok for people to express their beliefs even if they are different from yours. Finally, it's ok for Christians to be exposed to different beliefs, unless you're in the brainwashing business. I suggest a different approach... communicate with your children as they are exposed to the world. Don't lock them in a closet in an effort to protect them from everything that does not support what you teach them. You're setting yourself up for more rebellion than necessary.

Given the secular societies love of things anti-Christian this movie will be a sell out, judging by the likes of the da vinci code, the last temptation of Christ and such.

Then why don't you take your kids to it? They might actually learn something.
Or is it just that you're faith is too weak to survive a challenge? You aren't willing to face the fact that if God exists he is probably evil?
Yes, that's what I said, if you're god exists he is probably evil and should be hated.

Actually, I read the books, and the raw human love and emotion made me cry. They are beautifully written, and are a great tale of love, sacrifice, and friendship.
Also, if the Chronicles of Narnia (which are obviously anti-Atheist) were not boycotted by Atheists, then grow up.
If you don't want to see it, don't. All you have is one opinion.. .yours.

I was never going to watch this movie as it promised to be a load of bollox.
However you have piqued my interest sufficiently to make me want to go now. Thank you
And can you please explain why you do not want me to see something that you yourself have not seen yet? I am an adult and sufficiently self possessed not to influenced in any way by trivial entertainment

My family isn't going to see it. We probably wouldn't anyway, just because we're not into that kind of thing. But other families can do what they want.

Who cares? If you don't like it don't watch it, its not like someones forcing you.
But on the other hand, I suspect the Atheists would be up in arms if Christians did the same thing.

I just love people like you who bash something based on what they've "heard" about it instead of seeing it for themselves. Your diatribe has no basis in anything other than your hatred of atheists, and your paranoia that this movie might open up some child's mind to possibilities other than the fearmongering of Christianity.
