No, but surely it is good manners to choose a best answer whenever you can as the members who take time to give good answers to your question deserve some appreciation.

Do unto others what you would have them do unto you.
So if you find it courteous of others to take some time to reward your good effort then you should reward others as well.
Some people just throw around their words like " everything is a sin".
Its not that everything is a sin, but everything they want to do is a sin.
There are things like, donating to charity and taking time to help at risk teens with their issues, but sadly many just chose to play videogames watch porn and then just throw a couple of insults here on yahoo answers.
The basics of sin is this.
Sin came from a term " Missing The Mark"
If you launch an arrow and missed the mark- that is sin.
If you never launch an arrow- that is still a sin.
There are two types of sin.
Comitting the sin.
and Omitting the good deed.
Doing something wrong is considered a sin.
The same as failure to do the right thing is considered a sin.
So in the matters of being courteous to people, it is a sin not to treat others with courteously as you would desire others to treat you in a similar fashion.
But if nobody gives any good answer and everyone just babbled nonsensical things, it is understandable..
Usually considered justified actions.

"Best" is a matter of opinion. The "best" answer to a foolish or ignorant question might be an enlightening or a ridiculing answer. The "best" answer to an insincere question might be a mocking or a sincerely challenging answer. Who's to say what's "best" in such cases? Sometimes clever is better than informative. The only "sinful" answers would be selected solely on the basis of agreement or point boosting.

When people put a lot of thought into an answer, and it is in the ballpark, as to what you want in an answer, you should pick a best answer. Unless, you want to give people, an incentive to skip your questions altogether, due to lack of positive feedback. Some people like to have high statistics on best answers. I know my stats will never be that high, because I am not traditional enough for most questioners, and force them to think to much. Pray/meditate, eat healthy, do mind-body exercises, and don't over indulge. This should help tune you in to, when it is a sin, not to give a best answer.

Nope.
But it probably IS a sin to cast a vote for an answer that turns out NOT to be "best answer".
Choose carefully, grasshopper!
