He is new to the company and I have never met any of them. It will not be a big party it will be at his employers home. The problem is I am a stay at home mom, (I don't have a lot to talk about other than the children) I have gained a few pounds. I don't feel like my best at this time. However, I do want to make a good impression. I don't want to embarrass my husband in any kind of way.... Does anyone have any pointers or suggestions or good pep talks??? Thanks in advance.

All the answers you received are excellent. the only suggestions I could add might be to remember that the new boss and his family are obviously just as eager to please everyone too. It is up to a good hostess, to help make YOU comfortable. You might want to make a small list of basic conversation starters (or even answers). Everyone has a kid, pet hobby or favorite Christmas story. Just steer clear of religion and politics and I wouldn't sound apologetic for being a stay at home mom. In today's economy it is sometimes a hardship and in my opinion, one of the most thankless, unappreciated jobs on this planet. Enjoy your night out with the hubby. Oh, don't forget to take a bottle of wine or a box of chocolates or a Christmas plant and follow up with a mailed Thank You for having us to your home, nice to meet you, had a great time, Happy Holidays card.

Ahh being a stay at home mom can be quite mind numbing. But please don't overly talk about the children. While it may be your world, diaper changes, formuala brands and what new thing baby did this week will not go over well at an adult Christmas party. Of course, people will want to hear the basics like "We have a 2 year old" or something. While you may have gained a few pounds you can still try to feel good about yourself. Buy a new outfit or do your nails, or do something different and nice for yourself. To get out of the mind numbing mommy funk, read a book, listen to NPR or read some news articles so that you can be prepared for adult conversation. And, don't just do this for the party, being a stay at home mom can put you in quite a funk. While children are great, you still need time for yourself! Take an art class, read the news, form opinions on what you read, write in a journal, don't forget to take care of yourself in the process of nuturing others! :)

Dazzle them with your personality. It's a small room with very few people; show them how great you are. You're a stay at home mom; that's something to be proud of. What you look like isn't an issue - if the people are that self-absorbed and stuck up that they care, they're not worth your time anyway.

Find a nice dress or pantsuit that flatters your figure. Get your nails done, have your hair done ... anything to make you feel better about the way you look.

And don't worry, honey; your husband loves you for you, and unless you get drunk and start dancing naked on the table, he's not going to be embarrassed by you! Just be kind, polite, smile, and be thankful you get to meet new people and make new friends.

I think a stay at home mom is not a small job. It's hard, timely work. When you walk in dazzle them with a smile, hold out your hand and greet them all politely. As for your weight, who doesn't put on a few pounds here and there?. If you're concerned about attire try this:
Black dress pants or ankle length skirt , cream colored v-neck pearl button up blouse, pearl necklace and dangle ear-rings, fresh hair do, nicely manicured red nails, make-up, black patent leather heels or boots, don't forget your cologne and wa-la, you're ready party girl. Nock-em-dead! You'll have the best time. Happy Holidays.

Ohhhh those things are always uncomfortable. Don't worry about how you look. A good impression starts with a smile and a sparkle in your eye. Just be sweet to everyone and that will be enough. I'm a stay at home mom to 6 pets and it's all I talk about.

Wear something nice and comfortable......to make you feel good and confident about yourself. Get your hair and nails done. Have good makeup on.
Be yourself, ask questions about their lives, and answer questions about yours honestly but not too into details. Smile often. Think of them as your equals and be cool.
