I was wondering if anyone has ever tried hypnosis to lose weight. I understand it can help curb one's cravings and appetites. I live in New York and am looking into hypnosis. Thanks!

I have not tried hypnosis, but have read about it a bit. I believe that it is as simple as if you were to just talk yourself through your cravings. Resisting cravings and the urge to overeat takes willpower, and hypnosis, is a way of subconsiously telling yourself that you have willpower and tons of it. You can do the same thing, choose to belive it and then save your money for the gym or new clothes when you lose weight! Hope that helps!

I think it is possible, hypnosis can help with the bad habits and negative behaviours that can contribute to over eating, its not a total fix as you still have to address lifestyle and excercise is the main factor in losing weight and toning up.. If you look at methods such as Alan Carrs easy way to loose weight, tou can see that these type of hypnosis and subliminal message methods can help you get out of the loop of negative thinking... Sometimes over eating can become sucha bad habit that you need some kind of behaviour therapy to help get out of the habits causing you to eat... I think hypnosis is worth a try, if it helps you from beating yourself up about weight and the guilt that can come with overeating.. Its easy to say eat less excercise more but in the real world it can be psychological issues that cause this not just greed and laziness... I think if you are looking to do something, anything about it then you are on the right track by admitting there is a problem, rather than feeling guilty, lazy and depressed.. If you have the money to spend go for it, you might only loose a few paper pounds but at least you are trying something to get out of the viscious circle.......

Can't speak for weight loss, but a co-worker of mine tried hypnosis to quit smoking, and after ONE TREATMENT he put the cigarettes down and hasn't touched them since. It's been three years now and he has been smoke-free the entire time. I imagine it would work for weight loss if you're the type of person who is a compulsive eater or uses food every time you get upset, stressed, bored, etc.

hypnosis in general only works on those that truly want to change. the inability for some people to lose weight effectively is more of a combination of issues making the problem much harder to treat
