I am 11 weeks pregnant with my boyfriend who is in the Army (GA national guard). We were planning to be together after he returns from Iraq but now we may end our relationship because of his other relationship I just found out.. It will be hard to live myself with a baby. I need his help. But he told me that after he comes back from Iraq (June or July 2008), he may be gone away for while to take all war stress out and may not contact to anyone for a while.
I just don't know what to do now. How and where can I apply those child support or any kind of support for baby if he is in the military? I am not US citizen , living in US with permanent resident card.
Thanks.

the military has nothing to do with child support, that is dependent on the state in which you live. once you have a court order establishing how much you are entitled to, you can submit that to his Chain of Command and they will make sure it gets set up.

also make sure the Court order stipulates that the child must be covered under his insurance, although as a Guardsmen, family members do not qualify for insurance unless he is Activated for more than 30 days.

There really isnt a whole lot you can do right now, one being he is deployed and your pregnant meaning once you have the baby you can then go after him for child support, I am really not sure if there is any type of support you can get now from him honest I dont think so.. sounds to me he thinks he is a player in which you may have a very hard time getting support from him, he can always say the baby isnt his then only a Judge can court order a dna test, something the Army does not pay for. When proven this is his baby he can strongly be advised to care for the child, ANG drill pay isnt that much, unless he has a full time job then they will take money out of his check each month...
I would now take his info and contact legal.. you can even call the local welfare office to ask questions ( no I am not telling you to get on welfare ), they are there to hel...
I really wouldnt want to be with anyone who cheated on me baby or not, you deserve much better than this.
Good luck!

Contact both the family court services in your state and, if you know it, the Gaurd unit he is stationed with in the states (either base legal or family support). You should get good information on where to go from there. How smoothly may depend if he chooses to acknowledge the child right off or will wait til paternity test results (which are probably a good idea to do either way). Once paternity is acknowledged or established, the military will uphold whatever your local court system awards as child support (usually a percentage of his pay and some of his benefits) by taking the support payment directly out of his check and depositing it in either your account or the state account that would release it to you (again, this varies by state). You child would also be entitled to military health care and access to the BX and commisary (you would be allowed in as well while the child is a minor) for as long as the father remains in the service. Since you are in the country legally, there are no issues that could prevent you from seeking assitance, so I would do so.

the US military takes these types of situations very seriously

you might want to contact the District Attorney's office at the city where youre boyfriend's base is

they can probably tell you what to do, they handle alot of these cases for the military

also you can probably contact his base also for guidance

they will most likely deduct the child support directly from his pay and send it to you once it is determined he has to pay it
