I'm in college right now and doing very poorly, bad grades difficulty waking up for class, some of which could be attributed to my anxiety and depression problems. But, I've always felt extremely ashamed and lazy because I don't want to ever work. It's not Peter Pan syndrome or anything but I just feel like getting a job would be wasting my life in some way because it would not bring direct happiness to me. Can anyone relate to that or am I just another selfish, lazy, dumb-*** college kid?

Ok we have a couple of issues here. I will start with the one that is of primary relevance to your questions headline. You seem to indicate that you want to kill yourself as a means to solve a perceived problem of "being a burden". Let's assume that you are a burden (most people are to some extent). Now you think that if you were dead that this would no longer be a burden for you loved ones? Perhaps for you there would no longer be any burdens. But for those you leave behind they would grieve for you the remainder of there lives. Not to mention it would be expensive for them to handle the funeral arrangements. Now let's examine your other issues. You are "awkward" ? This is to be expected, especially from a teenager. But may I offer you this consideration...what does it even mean to not be awkward? I assume you must believe that there is some optimum personality that one can have, and that if you have that personality that all socialization will become easy, as well that you will be without any insecurities. Well that is not very realistic? You should consider that suicide is permanent and irreversible. And that your circumstances, as you have described them, are not permanent in the sense that they are irreversible. The key thing about changing is to have realistic expectations. You can change. But not all at once and not without set backs and lapses. If you expect to decide to change one day, and then as soon as you fall back into an old habit you count that as failure. Then you are right...it is useless. You must make progress incremental...and count the success as well as the failure when gauging that progress.

I am in highschool but I can relate. It is probably your depression problem because when someone is sad or mad, they dont want to get up and go through their day. Thats why deprest people stay in their homes a lot. They dont want to face the world. I would consider seeking some help. Maybe find a lot of friends to hang out with. Get your spirits up and just do!

Yeah, you could be just a selfish, lazy, dumb college kid or it could be you havent' figured out what you want to do as work. Enjoy this time of freedom while you can because eventually you will have to work to support yourself. Unless you got a lot of dough, you can count on it so try to figure out what really interests you and direct your education to that/those interests.

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT YOU SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION THAT WOULD BE THE REASON FOR YOUR WORTHLESSESS, SHAME AND LACK OF FOCUS. BY WHAT I SEE HERE, it seems like you may also believe life is not worth living?why else would you go to college and do poorly and not think you'll find satisfaction working doing your chosen career.
please do yourself a favor.
please see somone at your school- like health services and direct you to a psych and a good therapist.
you may need meds
please try and find a major that excites you! if not, maybe you do not belong in school right now. it is a big waist of money!
you may also have inhereted this work thing from your parents... do they like to work... is their job satisfying? is it a dead end low paying job? please tell yourself that you can do it.
good luck

I can relate. work sucks...but you have to do it eventually. just try and find something that intrests you... it will be easier to get up and do something every day if you like it, or at least find it somewhat interesting. . what do you like to do? maybe you are not going to school for the right thing. that can make you have bad grades and not want to go. there is always a job out there for what you like to do. it is just a matter of putting your mind to it. for example, if you like to party, be a dj...if you like to go to the beach, be a lifeguard, if you like to sit on your ***, be a computer geek. it is better to find a lower paying more fullfilling job, than to be miserable at a higher paying job you hate.

Good thinking except one missing piece I can think of would be that you are of the age of service and by working to earn money, you'd also be providing service to others who might need you.

You are just not properly motivated.

Hunger usually fixes that. Try it sometime see if you become motivated to work.
