Jesus says "the poor you shall always have, but me you shall not". And thus far Jesus is right. 2,000 years later the poor are still here even in the most prosperous nations like America. Jesus' kingdom is not of this world but is a spiritual kingdom.
Should we show kindness and compassion for the sick and hungry? Absolutely. But actions speak louder than words.
Jesus also says "blessed are the poor. For theirs is the kingdom of heaven." And yet again. "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven." So caution yourself as to prosperity and wealth. It may just keep you out of God's Kingdom.

Your question reminded me of the beginning of Toby Keith's song "Love me if you can" ...
Sometimes I think that war is necessary.
Every night I pray for peace on Earth.
I hand out my dollars to the homeless.
But believe that every able soul should work.

Its happening so unobtrusively, no one notices.
The way I see everyone's prayers to stop world hunger are 'working'.....
When there was the Asian tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, Dafur, there are volunteers there, like God's hands handing out the food.
No one notices how He works out our prayers, He's very modest about it all.

Hi JellyBean.
I don't pray for things to be solved miraculously, but rather for strength to help change the world myself, even a little at a time. I pray to God to help me be kinder and to think before I speak, to help me comfort those who are sick or mourning, and to be a good neighbor.
I don't expect God to solve everything on His own, but I do believe that I am here for a reason, and the reason is for me to help others whenever and however I can. Whether it is buying a homeless guy a meal, or picking up another's garbage. I can make a difference.

The church does pray for these things! Not only that, we have entire organizations set up to bring food to those who need it all over the world. And fresh water, and clean clothes, and eduction, and Christmas presents. Right now my church is reaching out to the Philippines, and before I moved my last church couldn't even afford a building so we met at a movie theater but we still took a regular offering for an orphanage in Africa. Our hearts break for them.. Have you honestly not seen it?

I pray mainly for my husband's family and my baby brother. However I also pray for my Muslim sisters and brothers in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, and Afghanistan as well as the rest of my brethren in the Muslim world. ALLAH(SWT) answers all prayers in due time. If the people of all the countries would donate more money to the poor people like the Muslims do then there would be no poor people. HIV is a disease caused by having sex before marriage and having sex with mutiple people so basically it's your own fault if you get HIV or some other disease because you could have prevented it by staying a virgin until marriage.

Do not worry about what you are going to eat, or drink, or put on, seek first the kingdom of heaven and God your Father, will provide for you, when you come home to the kingdom of heaven, the "promised land".

Are you kidding? Prayer was meant to be selfish and self serving.
Those who pray are too busy praying for things they want to bother with things other people need.
Out of sight, out of mind....
