My husbands grandfather was a Bailey and grandmother a Barnum.As far as I know they have been settlers of Mississippi.Although I researched some myself.I know there are realatives in New york.I really wonder if we are or he is a true great great grandchild.Even if he is would that entitile us to anything?It is like a wild goose chase to figure it out but also so intresting?Can you help or point me in the right direction?

As far as entitled...even if it were true, probate has long been settled....and even it it weren't, between PT Barnum, James Baley and James Hutchinson, just assuming each generation had 2 children and were 30 years spaces, there would be about 1,000 descendants (just let one of those have more than 2 children and the number goes up quite a bit). So if something were there, I guess it could be split 1,000 different ways.

But the only way you are going to find out if you are related to either or both is to start with YOU! Then your parents, then grandparents. Get a solid foundation. Then concentrate on the lines that you believe are related (probably the Barnum paternal line and the Bailey paternal line). One step at a time backwards. Only then will you know.

Being related to someone doesn't entitle you to anything. You can look it up for your geneologic records but you wouldn't get anything other than the pleasure of knowing where you came from. If you were entitled to anything, you would've already been receiving it.

This makes no sense. The two names are not related and you have offered no proof that they are in this case.
