About 5.
To avoid confusion from the other answers, about 5% are actually atheists, whereas 5%+ are identified as non-religious or declined to state a religion while polled.

The last percentage I've heard is 11. It was on a network news broadcast, maybe NBC. They did a feature on beliefs. I thought it really seems like more than that. This is suppose to include those who say, "I don't know." But I think, in a survey, some who aren't sure might be afraid to say no to believing in God, but no believers will be afraid to say, "yes."

- A person or attribute of the indigenous peoples of South or North America
- A citizen or attribute of the ’United States of America’: the political correct term
is 'US-American'

Nobody knows for sure . Many people who never miss a church service are Atheists . They make a show of religion for business or political gain .
Religion or the lack of it is only in a persons mind . There is no way of knowing what anyone really thinks or believes .

Reports vary, but less than 5% of Americans self-identify as atheists. Roughly 10% identify as "no religion".

The statistics are unreliable.
It's set around 10% but the number is higher, because a lot of the people are "closet" atheist.

Since the term itself means "No Gods" then each and every American, Samoan, and everyone else is an Atheist....
The problem is that some are deluded enough to believe in fairies, gnomes and gods....
