I don't think Bill Elliott would be as good as Jeff Gordon is right now.

It seems like as drivers age more into their career they sometimes get lost in the shuffle of rule changes with the cars and tire changes from Goodyear. The drivers were use to doing something for so many years and it won them races, so they have a hard time wanting to change with the times.

Some veteran drivers have been able to stay with the changes over the years. Mark Martin is one driver that comes to mind.

The driver can't carry the car to the finish line. All drivers reaching the level of professional driving today are good drivers, some a little better than others, but all good. The difference is the equipment.

At his prime Bill Elliott was voted most popular driver so many times in a row that he actually suggested that the fans give someone else a chance. He's a classy guy, a good guy that we miss.

Bill's not the same driver he was 15-20 years ago, but he is not in a good ride in the #21. I think he would be in the Top 12 in the #24 provided he had Gordon's crew chief and pit crew. That is a very good car, but Jeff Gordon at this stage is a better driver. Bill is over 50 now.

I'd have to say no. Bill is a legend and a real gentleman. I think Bill is a great driver, but I can't see him being a contender today no matter if he was driving the 24 or the 48.

I don't think he'd be contending b/c there's a lot more to it than just the equipment. The driver & crew chief have to communicate well, so that the crew chief knows what changes the driver's looking for to make the car better. I do think he'd probably have won 1 or 2 races this year, though.

No, And I've been a fan of his for years! He would be doing a lot better than he is now, but so many things have changed in Nascar that he has to be scratching his head!
The last year he drove full time for Evernham he won the Brickyard! That was great!! I still have that race on tape and watch it from time to time!
The car he drives now is not even in the same league as other cars out there.

Nothing against Bill Elliott, one of the classiest guys in NASCAR history, but I don't think he could win in the #24 car. I think it's a comination of driver & the car. Elliot is past his prime days.

Not sure if he would be as good as Gordon, but hey its better equipment than he is in now, he would do better, but i think his days of winning like Gordon is over...Now if he were in the ride for a entire season...maybe we'd see Awesome Bill get a win.. This would be interesting to see!!

Go Dale Jr....win at Texas

At this point in his career I would say probably not. Wins come from having good equipment AND the driver.

And that is NOT a knock on Awesome Bill from Dawsonville

Yeah, I think he would be in the chase, at the very least. He is a great driver, and has not had a really good ride for a long time.

Go Jr.>>>>
