If you don't believe in God and depend on logic, then isn't your logic better off helping others in other sections where you could really "help" someone ?
Is it that maybe you want to believe in God ? and you fear (like us) that there is a hell ?
It just pisses people off when they ask a question about something they believe in (God) and then all your 'help' is "there is no God" or "I dont believe that because I dont believe in God" ? that is not 'helping' in answering a spiritual question. (and I personally think it's pretty rude.)
Some people who believe in God come to this section to HELP people like you. It's like, "If you build it, they will come"
you are the "they" I wonder if God has brought you to this section because he is trying to speak to you in some way ? what to you think ? too weird ?
Mainly, Do you want to believe ? or you just trying to offend those who do believe ? Are you afraid hell might exist ?

I'm guessing "Drink" means "Yes" ?

I'm not saying that Atheists "CAN'T hang out here" or that "R&S belongs to Christians."
I just find it odd/weird

I was about to ask the same question.
I don't understand -- people come on here (not ALL of them, albeit) asking, looking for a Christian answer, and before you post an honest answer, there are at least 10 opinions of whether or not God exists!

Obviously -- this person is not struggling with that, right now! If they wanted an opinion on the existence of God, I am sure they would have just asked "Does God exist?"

R&S is not necessarily for strong believers in the supernatural , but also for those who are interested in religion . Many Atheists are fascinated by the superstitions that believers have . Many can tell you about many religions , while most Holies know only their own church .
I have no hope or fear of the existance of either "god" or the "devil". Both are superstitious impossibilities .
As a small kid , I went to church every Sunday . I listened to all the sermons over and over . None of it was any more than the fairy tales that Mom used to read to us . If anything , the faiey tales were far more interesting , and far more believable.
If you're really that anxious to help people understand your religion , start by explaning the trinity . This was one reason I left the church . I heard the stupid egg stories , the shamrock leaved , the three "persons". Nobody has ever explained to me who the church uses the improper "persons" instead of the proper word "people" . What is your difference ?
Don't just bellyache about non-believers , and don't preach the same old garbage over and over . Hit the tough spots. Explain in clear understandable language , the trinity , how a vigin can have a baby , how god could be the father - -but the baby was conceived by the ghost .
I strongly believe in logic. Just believe blindly without questions , may be enough for you . It's not for me .

I think that you miss the point. This is R&S. Not "God and believers". Religion and spirituality is about a great deal more than Christianity.

There are a number of religions that are atheistic in nature. Buddhism, for one. There is also a secular humanist faith, and many, if not most Satanists are actually atheists.

Too, spirituality does not imply belief in God. One can quite easily lead a spiritual life with no God whatever.

The section R&S is about the discussion of issues of religion and spirituality, not about the promotion or celebration of specific views.

Atheists have just as much right to discuss these issues as do Christians; they live in a world where these views are constantly impressed upon them whether they wish so or not. It makes a great deal of sense for them to wish to express their views or to air their objections.

As a Pagan here, I find this section overwhelmingly Christian. I welcome atheists.

You complain about atheists showing disrespect for your faith. I ask you what it was like for Pagans this past week. We are celebrating our most sacred time of year and were constantly told that we were bound for hell by Christians. Tell me that you are necessarily deserving of better treatment? As your Bible says, What ye sew, so shall ye reap.

I absolutely enjoy those conversations where we can discuss what we believe. I will respond in kind though when attacked or when I witness attacks. If you want good and supportive conversation, please engage in such. It will be returned in kind. If you wish daggers, darts and fisticuffs, by all means, so engage. You'll likely find it as well.

Why do Christians keep asking the same questions?
what are you afraid of, that you might actually learn something of the bible from an Atheist?, that you are worried that we will make you question your faith?

most Atheist I know have more knowledge about scripture than a lot of Christians ( not all, just a lot) and our interpretations are in conflict with the religious organisations because we speak through logic and reason. religion is nothing but superstitious nonsense, a bronze age philosophy usurped by the greedy profiteering bureaucrats heel bent on using it as a tool to gain even more power than they have already. we come here because the faithful are the ones that need saving! we can only do this by trying to get you too open your eyes to the deceit and lies of the church.

religion teaches arrogance and hate. Atheism teaches self knowledge and enlightenment, which sound the better of the two?

Why do you assume that people who believe in God are the only ones who have the right to hang out in R&S?

Quite a few of those believers have ventured elsewhere, some verbally attacking people in the Gay&Lesbian section. What right do they have to hang out there? They give comments to gay people in the same manner for which you are attacking atheists.

The God Squad cannot always have its own way. Religion and Spirituality is an interest shared by a diverse range of people.

sigh, or, as many in this category say, drink

(That's because the repetition of the same questions thousands of times is driving us to drink. Before submitting this question, you could have read any number of those thousands of times it's already been asked and answered. Why didn't you?)

I'll give the response I've given, oh, so many times before: I don't hang out in R&S, I hang out in Yahoo Answers, and often spend a lot of time in Society & Culture.

When people ask me questions (as you did, by addressing your question to atheists), I answer.

I spend a lot of time in a lot of other categories, some of them to help others, sometimes just to have a good time analyzing the questions and trying to compose strong answers.

No, I don't want to believe in god or any other imaginary beings. No, I don't fear imaginary places.

When there are questions that are really addressed to believers, I usually pass them by, as I know they believe. Sometimes it's something that I happen to know of (the more factly kinds of things), so I'll answer those, too.

Or when people take surveys of who does and doesn't believe.

Or when people say crazy things about evolution.

I agree that, if people are asking a religion-based question, such as what people of a given belief think, or what a sacred text says, or something like that, that it's rude to post a "there's no such thing" -- nor do I see the point.

If you came here to ehlp people like me, please knock it off. I've seen and heard all your arguments, oh so many times before, since I live in a country where most people are believers. That's what drives us to drink.

My lack of belief does you no harm; if it makes you happy to think I'll burn forever, fine. If it makes you sad, tough; I'm not going to believe insane things just to make you happy.

No, you can keep building, but I won't come.

God didn't bring me to this section, since there's no such thing; a link in my email brought me to this site, and sometimes a question brings me here.

No, I don't want to believe. No, I'm not trying to offend those who do believe; I really wish they'd all leave us alone and stop ragging on us, and stop trying to put their beliefs into my laws, or the classrooms of the young.

No, again, I'm not afraid hell might exist.

Now I think I'll go have that drink.

Not an atheist, but I'll answer anyway.

For the same reason that muslims, jews, buddists, wiccans, and hindus come here. It is a forum for presenting your take on the various topics people ask about. Atheism is just as valid as any other theology, given that there is no verifiable proof in the matter.

Atheist just stand out more because they are second only to christians for the percentage of zealots and fanatics among them.

Ignore the rude ones, and consider what the rational ones have to say.

Some of them are probably here because they do want answers. I commend anyone with the courage to do so. Some of them are here though, for the simple fact that they hate and despise people of faith. And worse yet, is that they despise the concept of hope itself. They are the embodiment of so much hate and so little moral integrity that they can't possibly keep it all under containment.

This serves as their platform to spew hate. Many people are like venomous snakes. They smile in your face and seethe with envious rage behind your back. It's much easier to expound upon that deep of animosity from behind a computer screen than in public. It's also cowardice and petty. But that's become the way of the world.

If what was said in Matthew 24: "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me." Pertains to this time, I can smell it brewing. The world has a broiling blood lust for attacking Christians. Even if it means to use the bad examples to attack a good ones. They only need a reason.

But, then misery does love company. That's why you don't see people of faith making vulgar, hateful and childish remarks in the other forum sections. It's a pathetic attempt at assassinating someone else's character to throw pot shots and even more pathetic for them to laugh at their own ignorance. Don't they understand that the only intelligence they insult is that of their own.

How bad some people need peace.

Pray for them.

They are drinking in the subways and in the dust of dirty halls, on my street corner you can get anything and all. Wisdom comes from experience, I think I have seen it all, enough to know that somewhere there is truth from wall to wall. And where would I go, and what would I do, they are tearing down skid row to put up a zoo. I have submitted my application in anticipation of paying my dues. In the mean time, this Buds for you. No offense intended.
