You sound like you could knock Rizzo out of the ballpark. Just a thought, but I have always loved that song that Rizzo sings when she was leaving school that day "There Are Worse Things I Could Do"
Good Luck on Sandy, but you may also consider Rizzo as a back up plan, after all Stocker Channing has become a far more talented and worked actress than Olivia Newton John.
Edit : After reading all the other answers I realized they thought it was a color thing, I personally just thought with the talent, you would do better to go for a far more interesting character like Rizzo.

Well, I don't think what color you are should really matter, as long as you can play Sandy like she's supposed to be played.
Study past performances of Sandy, watch the movie, get a good sense of how she is, all her moods, her innocence, her later changes, how she relates to those around her differently depending on whether they are boys or girls, adults or kids, etc. Remember that this was a very innocent time of life in the US back then in general.
Good luck and have fun!

well, who cares that you are black....sandy can be black too!! You would have to do hopelessly devoted if you are doing it alone...but if you can audition with someone else, why not find a great guy singer and do Summer nights...it gives a lot of opportunities to move around and spice it up a bit. Or, if you want, you could do another song alltogether that just sounds similar to something sandy would sing and that shows off your vocal range. Mostly I would focus on any song that makes them think of you as Sandy. good luck!!

for me it depends in the girl. Like I might see a girl with black hair and also think she is totally hot however see a girl with blond curly hair that is meh and vice versa.

Go for it! I would prefer to see the best talent performing rather than base the role on the color of skin.

ask your best friends to be BRUTALLY honest with you. sing a fast and a slow song. get them to tell you which one, or neither. tell them NOT to be nice to you. you don't want to be embarrassed later.
color doesn't matter. have you SEEN the broadway show? they are NOT white with blonde hair, blue eyes now. they're latins, etc.

Sing what you love from that play. Of course you have a chance, unless your director is type-casting for whites!
