About 2500 reasons. Give or take a few thousand... The most typical is fuel pump, next - ECU (on-board computer), next - "octapuss" fuel injector. These are the first to look at providing it cranks. If it does crank - the battery is OK!!!

I own a shop, and think this; Get someone to look at it that knows something about vehicles. This is just to broad of a question to even speculate. You could have anything from a bad battery to a blown engine. Call a mechanic, and get an estimate on fixing it, and this way you will know what the problem is, and how to approach the issue.
Glad to help out, Good luck!!!

Does it crank? You have to be specific with the question. Batteries or starters are pretty easy to check. Motors start with spark delivery, fuel delivery, ample compression, and a good PCM. Find out which one is not delivering and chase through. These are pretty simple to diagnose, just crank the motor over and check spark outputs to the end of the spark plug wires. Test for fuel pressure by installing a shop guage into the port at the left rear of the intake plenum, needs about 55 psi to start. Data and code checks will need a scanner.

actualy you want to start by looking at the most common thing first,(which is not the fuel pump) the battery. If that test out o.k. next make sure your starter is working ( the engine tries to turn over).
If you turn the key and get absolutely nothing, and the battery is good than try having someone hit the starter with something hard while you turn the key. If the starter is good than you need to make sure you have spark.
