I am from Connecticut and rarely travel to New York how do you know what train/subway to get onto.

this is a good location for you since I am assuming you are taking the train in and will probably arrive at Grand Central (which is 42nd Street)...5th Avenue is very close walking from here...and then you just make a right on 5th Avenue and walk a few more blocks to 46th Street...

Since you are at Grand Central Station, you get on the uptown Lexington Ave. train (#4) and ride to 51 street. Then you get off, and walk to Fifth Ave, and enjoy a stroll down to 46 st.

I'm sorry to inform you, that that particular branch of Barnes & Nobles is closed and has been for a little while (at least 6 months).

You should check with Barnes & Nobles and see where they rescheduled that book signing to.
