that is actually an urban legend. It was a silver spoon to be exact. mythbusters tv show tried it out and it doesn't work any better than just recorking the bottle. If you are looking to keep wine fresh, you need one of those stoppers that pulls the air out of the bottle. Or get a smaller 375ml (half size bottle) and transfer the wine to that. Oxygen is the enemy of wine. So the less air space you have the more fresh it will be.

you usually have about a week if stored properly. And you can store both red and white in the fridge. The wine experts that I work with at Copia a wine and food museum in napa say that they store both wines in the fridge. The key with the reds is to bring them out of the fridge about half hour before serving to get them back up to room temp.

it was once rumored that placing a SILVER spoon handle in an opened bottle of Champagne would keep it bubbly for a longer period of time. That was proven to be false many decades ago.The old wives tale still persists, but doesn't work, especially with wine. The enemy is oxygen, as long as the wine is exposed to oxygen, it will deteriorate.

Sorry, I don't buy it.

That sounds like an old wives tale.

Wine will oxidize when exposed to air, and a teaspoon is not going to stop that

That's just silly. Metal ruins the taste of wine. Thats why you should always make sure the metal foil is peeled away from the bottle so that it doesn't taint the taste.
